Marty's Adventures
Little Nolan had a very rough night last night so it was a bit of a sleep deprived night for us all. Everyone was sleeping soundly though when it was time for me to leave so I slipped out quietly to let the sleep deprived parents keep sleeping. I have had an amazing visit with my dear friends Sarah, Jon and Nolan. I made my way via the sbahn to the main train station. Just getting comfortable with the sbahn and it is time to leave. No exciting train stories this morning, everything went smooth and I made my way to Dresden. As I only had a few hours in Dresden I had a bit of a game plan. I walked directly to the Church of Our Lady where you can climb to the top of the dome and have a full panoramic of the city. WOW, lucky me it was a beautiful clear day. Just amazing, taking it all in. When I finished at the top of the dome I went in to the church and had a few moments in there. Such beauty. I meandered around the old town past the Furstenzug( a mural of the procession of the Dukes), the Opera House, Zwinger and Royal Palace. I also spent some time in the Christmas Market. More hot chocolate and bratwurst! Then I rushed back to the train to catch my train to Prague. I am glad I took the time to stop in Dresden, I could of spent more time and I missed a few things because I was rushing, but all in all it was a great visit to a beautiful place! My train to Prague was 2 hours, we mostly meandered along the river in the river valley. Beautiful houses along the river and small villages with church steeples all along the way. Mid-evil looking castles up on the ridges, I just imagined what it would be like inside them. I was not able to take pictures as the windows on the train were very dirty! About halfway through the train ride the language of the announcements changed, the looks of the houses and churches changed, the writing on signs changed and it was quite apparent that I had crossed the border into the Czech Republic. We continued to wind along the river with perfect reflections of the houses on the banks and the villages in the hills. I got off the train and headed for the tram. I knew I needed to get the #5 but I couldn't find where to buy the ticket....I was tired and impatient so I just started walking in what I thought was the right direction. It kinda was...I had to ask a few times where Old Town Square was and was sorted out in the right direction. I found the reception where I was to get my keys for the apt. I walked over to my apartment and it exceeded my expectations. I have a huge two bedroom apartment with kitchen, massive bathroom and soaker tub looking out on to the square! I settled in to my apartment and headed out to find food and explore. I found some amazing food in the Christmas Market and watched the Astronomical clock strike 6. I made my way through the small streets filled with shops to the Charles Bridge where I saw the Palace all lit up. Then I wandered back through and found the most amazing dessert. I have no idea what it was but it was filled with Nutella! I made my way back to the square and explored some more. I headed back to the hotel early after a long day. Very tired girl and lots of exploring to be done tomorrow!
