Marty's Adventures
My plan this morning was to wake early and walk to the Charles bridge for sunrise. I woke up to rain and went back to bed! Apparently I was tired and slept till 9am! I hurried out of the apartment to find coffee. I caved this morning and got a Starbucks coffee. I just wanted big ole cup of coffee and there happens to be a Starbucks 2 mins from here! So I drank my Starbucks and enjoyed the Astronomical clock in front of me for a bit. Once I finished my coffee I climbed up the inside tower of the Astronomical clock. I made my any round and round up the inside of the tower all while reading the history of the tower on plaques situated on the walls. Once at the top I was amazed by the beautiful view in all directions. You could see the castle, the old town square and the hundreds of church spires! So beautiful! I made my way back down the tower and headed for a walk over to the more gothic area of town where I just wandered down streets and through tunnels and I got lost. I eventually found my way out and made my way to meet up with the tour of the Underground City. The old city that is now under the current old city was basically a floor lower. They had many floods in this area and what they did with dirt from the mote they built around the city was to raise the city. They basically just poured dirt around the houses and buildings so the second floor became the first floor. Most of these old first floors still exist. I was the only one on my tour so I got a print tour. It was very cool. You could see where doors had been that connected the rooms, almost like tunnels. Even the nazis knew about these and used them for prisons. Then I made my way to the Charles Bridge to meet up with the tour I had left yesterday to catch the second half. We walked across the Charles Bridge. Clara our guide was telling us how superstitious the Czech people are and some where along the bridge I made a wish, rubbed a statue that will help me find my soul mate and I can't remember what the other one was. Will see how that goes for me.... We wandered up to the castle through streets and then a lot of stairs. We ended the Castle and toured around the grounds. The St Vital Cathedral is right in the middle of the castle and was so beautiful. You could see the old gothic part of the Church and then the new parts. After the castle I headed out on my own and found the John Lennon wall. The wall represents a symbol of global ideals such as love and peace. It constantly changes as new graffiti is done all the time. I made my way back across Charles Bridge and along the river to the National Theatre. There was a cool market, in the square behind. A more modern feel than the Christmas Markets in the squares around old town. I found the sculpture "Metamorphis" by David Cherny which is a sculpture that has layers that all move. I also saw one of his sculptures early in the day of a need woman. I made my way back to the Old Town square which now had thousands of people in it. I was not too excited about spending time here so I decided to get something to eat real quick and go to my apt and pack up. I ate the most expensive piece of ham I have ever ate, not sure if I got took but I pad $20 for a piece of ham! Ok I am pretty sure I got took! Then I heard a woman walked past saying I have no idea what I got but it is the most expensive piece of meat I have eaten!! Back to my apt and all packed up with an early morning wake up of 330am. Prague has been no lovely and beautiful and did not disappoint!
