After our not so quiet time in Kakadu, we were so happy when we visited Umbrawarra Gorge just out of Pine Creek. This gorge is some way down a dirt road and for some reason not too popular. When we arrived at the carpark we were the only ones there. The walk along the gorge wasn't too hard either and after only maybe a bit over 1K we were in a gorge with lots of magnificent trees and palms and it was quiet, we could hear the birds and we watched butterflies flu...

After we left Litchfield NP we were worried if we would arrive in Kakadu NP early enough to get a spot there. We had chosen a route that would take us from the Stuart Highway across to the Arnhem Highway and cut off the corner and a lot of distance, however it was a dirt road, so speed was slow. As it turned out, it was one of the nicest drives we had had in the NT. There was no traffic and it took us through a couple of lovely river crossings were we enjoyed ...

Lichfield was the first of the iconic parks we visited in the Northern Territory and by arriving early we were able to get a campsite at Wangi Falls. Wangi Falls was a lovely spot, though the swimming hole was closed because Parks Services hadn't finished their crocodile survey and they only open the swimming holes once they are sure there are no crocs present. From the swimming hole though there is a lovely walk that takes you up what they call here in the Top...

We had camped only 50K out of Katherine, so we were in Katherine early, around 9.30. The first caravan park we passed had a sign out the front saying it was full and that there were no checkins before 11. We pulled over and called a caravan park that was on the road to the gorge, so we called, they didn't answer, so I left a message for them to call me back (I'm still waiting). Ella's flight was meant to leave Kununurra at 11.50, but on the morning of her departure we received notification that the flight was set back to 14.15, she finally lifted off at 15.00. As we had booked out of the caravan park we had been in and there was no accomodation in Kununurra anyway, we had no option other than our plan A of heading into the Northern Territory and hoping we would be able to find a campsite in Keep River National Park, just over the borde...
