Waking up far too early for my liking we walked to a sea front cafe to meet one of Jodie's friends, Charlotte, for breakfast. She turned out to be lovely, roughly eight foot in height and recommended things on the menu for us to try. Chelsea, heeding Charlotte's advice, went for a corn fritter with bacon and avocado whereas I got back in touch with our Bali holiday and had nasi goreng (a fried rice dish with bacon and chicken with a runny fried egg on top, it's an absolute game changer)!
Waving goodbye to Charlotte and making plans to see her and her partner for a meal on Friday we shut her car doors and went to explore the huge, four floor shopping arena called Westfield. The place was an absolute maze, though we did find a rather hip (I'm down with the kids) store called, 'Surf, Skate 'n' Ski. It had a 'buy three items get the cheapest free' offers on so we indulged in a pair of vans trainers each, mine look delicious!
With a considerable dent in our 'Australian allowance' we bought some drinks and headed back out into the sunshine for a paddle and a relax. This Australian life isn't too bad you know...
In the evening, talk turned to what Jodie's plans for the future were and she said, quiet surprisingly, that she saw herself coming home in the next six months. This was a bit of a shock as she always seems to be having such a great time here. That being said, I think I would probably feel the same way after a year here; constant social events and sunbathing does seem like the dream but after a while I think I would start to think, 'What am I really gaining here? How am I progressing?' I guess that when the end of your visa is generally always within touching distance you think that things like: starting your own business or progressing up your career ladder are pointless endeavours as soon you will have to give it all up to return home.
Feeling pensive, I retired to bed thinking that unless you're in Australia for the long haul, there really isn't much need to come here other than for an elongated holiday.
