Twas a sad day leaving Easter Island....
Hello Tahiti! Or rather Papeete!!
What can I say about this place. Accomadation was fantastic - thank you to Beni at Fare-Suiss (www.fare-suiss.com) for your hospitality.
We were only there a night and one long day but what we saw in Papeete was an over-priced dump. The town was horrible. So we went back to our lodgings and played monopoly on Kim's Nintendo DS (a great purchase). Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are lovely parts of Tahiti - Papeete town ain't one of'em!
Anyways onto New Zealand (Where all the best Aussie bands come from Marg! ;))
We got to Auckland safe enough, then got our connecting flight to Queentown easy enough, however due to bad weather all flights to Queenstown were diverted which resulted in a 3 hour bus ride from Invercargill - b*****!
So whats Queenstown like? Its full of extreme sports heroes looking for that next adrenaline rush or for the next beer!! As Kim says this place is for the "bratpackers" not the backpackers. Queenstown is more of a holiday destination than a backpackers destination.
The area is beautiful, and can only be described as the lake district but bigger!! Queenstown is like a large Bowness!!
Its damn expensive here too!!
Anyway as they say "When in Rome....", so yesterday Kim and meself decided to have an adrenaline packed day!!
First off was the canyon swing, 109 metres up, 60 metre freefall and soiled pants. Don't worry folks we have the videos for all to see! In the meantime click on the link for a look http://www.canyonswing.co.nz. It was fliipin scary!!
After a shower and some fresh underpants we were off to our next extreme adventure.....
We queued up, trembling with anticipation, it would'nt be long before it would start and we were'nt wrong....
On they came.....
The Drifters, live at Brazz, Queenstown!
Kim seemed to know every word of every song, although I knew a few meself!
The guys have been performing since 1952 and have a new album coming out!!
Anyways Kim got a poster autographed by all the guys, plus some photo's, and George Washington (lead vocal) got a glass of vino out of me, - cheeky sod!
The guys were lovely and we met some great folks there - even met some nice Americans (damn I'm warming to'em)!!
Today we picked up our campervan and tomorrow we are off touring the South island - superb!
That's all folks! (for now)
Lots of love,
Rick and Kim xxx
PS
Come on North End!
We're 12 hours ahead of the UK at the mo, eg 9am UK means 9pm NZ.
My mobile is now on - possibly most of the time now.
Beware the 'Shocker'!
