Day 2 and 3 -
Left Lima at 6am, amazingly there were lots of locals going about (buses full of them) so not sure wher they were all going so early in the morning. We had a 4 hour drive to Paracas, where we boarded a speedboat to the Ballesteras Islands, often called the poor man´s Galapagos Islands. We saw Sea Lions, Penguins, Birds and Dolphins!
AFter a short drive we arrived at Huacachina, which is an oasis in the middle of the desert )see picture above!). We had lunch and wondred around and then headed out to the desert in Dune BUggies...so much fun! The dunes were huge an the buggies were so fast that it felt like being on a rollercoaster. We also did some sand-boarding - going down huge dunes on our front on a board a bit like a Snowboard! Lots of fun!
We eventually arrived at a little dip in the dunes where we set up a campfire and had a barbeque. At about midnight we settled down around the fire in our sleeping bags and slept under the stars (even saw some shooting stars!). What an amazing end to an amazing day!
This morning we drove back in the dune buggies and after breakfast headed to Nazca, where there are huge carvings out of the sand (still a big mystery as to how they got there) in the shape of things like hands and monkeys. We looked from a watchtower but some braver people went up in a tiny plane to get a better look. We didn´t think out mum´´s would be happy if we didnt come back n one piece so we decided against it! Had a lazy afternoon sunbathing by the pool and off to have an early night.
Tomorrow we are headed to see some mummies on the way to Puerta Inca for some camping and a bbq on the beach. We havent come across anywhere where we can upload pics yet but will maybe buy a card reader so that we can get pics up for you to see soon. This computer is rubbish so tahts why my spelling/punctuation is awful!
Not sure when we get internet access next but will post another blog when we do to keep you all updated :)
