Hello from Arequipa! Left our last location, Puerto Inka at 7am this morning and have been driving all day. Puerto Inka was lovely, a campsite right next to the beach and beside some Inca ruins, where the first Inca fishing port was, and which was not discovered until the 1950s. Earlier in the day we went to Chuachilla cemetery and saw some 2000 year old mummies, which was fascinating. They were so well preserved that they still had hair! We had a barbeque last night, cooked by Gayle! It was lovely, the steaks were so tasty. We are eating very well, lots of fruit veg and salad. We are also pleased to report that the toilets at the last 2 campsites have been really clean, which is a nice change!
We arrived in Arequipa around 4pm today. The drive didnt take too long as we did some quizzes on the bus that passed the time! We had a little wonder around, Arequipa is called the "white city" as most of the buildings in the main square are white. the architecture is beautiful, and we watched the sunset from a rooftop bar over the square. The only lowlight of the tour was witnessing a man having a poo in the street.....yuck!!!
We are going to have dinner soon, more camping tonight and then leaving tomorrow for Colca Canyon, the deepest canyon in the world.
Thanks for all the messages on the message board, keep them coming, it brightens up our day :)!
