Phillips Family Travels
Nearing the end of our trip now. The Victory Hotel is nowhere near as nice as the other hotels we have stayed in but very close to the centre of Saigon. Out for 8:30 this morning packing our cases again and leaving most at the hotel whilst we go to the home stay on the Mekong Delta. A couple of hours on the bus takes us to the boat terminal where we take a trip up the Mekong. We stop an island and go and made three stops on a nice walk. Firstly at a fruit farm where we tried all sorts of exotic fruits (I can't remember any of their names!) then onto try some honey tea and hold some very docile bees, and finally to see some coconut candy being produced. All very interesting. Then we were taken up the river on a rowing boat to our lunch stop. We stopped for. Tuc Tuc ride and then onto the best bit after a 15 min coach ride to the home stay. This was a family setup where the mother ran a over night stay for groups. The accommodation was basic but nice in a dorm style. Outside loos and shower and then a lovely communal area where we ate. There was an activity of catching prawns, then a cycle ride which went through all the local village which was really interesting. We cooked spring rolls and then had a fantastic dinner before tucking down for the night. A really enjoyable day for everyone.
