Last night was awful. I was woken up by my own moaning as my whole entire body was aching so badly. It's what usually happens when i get glandular fever or tonsillitis or whatever the hell it is. I woke daniel up with my cries as well as he went downstairs at 04:00am to get me some water so i could take some pain killers. They didn't really help though and i was crying and aching so much, i can't tell if it's my muscles or bones.
When we properly woke up, i felt like absolute s*** but really badly wanted to see the Citadel. I slowly got ready and walked down the many flights of stairs and out into the heavy heat of Hué. We walked around for a bit while daniel tried to find a cafe he went to yesterday but couldn't find it so settled in a different place where i ordered a pineapple and banana smoothie.
We then continued on our walk across the river and over the bridge where men were setting up rings of metal for the festival. We walked down to the big, old, brick wall to enter the citadel. We walked to the exit instead of the entrance which was bloody annoying as i ache so much and it was sooo hot so we walked all the way back round again to the entrance where we discovered the entry fee was 105,000D instead of 60,000D which is stated in the lonely planet and online. Although, i think the price may have been increased because of the Hué festival that is taking place in and around the citadel.
We paid the fee and walked through although we were not given a map of any kind so had to suss out where everything was ourselves. After walking around aimlessly in the heat, we both felt pretty disappointed. The best part we saw, in my opinion was the royal theatre which was painted inside with red and gold with rows of grand looking gild furnished seats. It had a shakespearean feel to it, if he had been Vietnamese. There wasn't much to the place at all. There was some live spanish music being played which must be part of the festival but other than that it was just long walkways with tall brick walls and no maps around anywhere. After around an hour i felt defeated.
My pelvic bones were aching so much, i felt like i had been used as a punch bag so really i couldn't wait to leave. We walked over a different bridge across the river and through the many busy streets of the town back to the hotel, i just wanted to collapse in bed and feel sorry for myself. After we had been back a while, Daniel went out to get some food so i stayed sleeping inside the room which was fine by me. I felt like i needed some fruit so i asked if he could bring me back a fruit shake of some sort but when he got back he said they didn't have any so i made do with the good old H2O.
Later on in the evening we were laying in bed watching Wolf of Wall street on my ipad when we heard the loud bangs of fireworks so looked out our window to investigate. They were beautiful, we figured they were coming from the bridge we crossed earlier in the day and they really did look marvellous. I felt bad for Daniel as he could and should have gone to see it up close but decided to stay in with me. I have a bad habit of getting ill at the wrong time. We booked our bus ticket to Phong Nha ke national park for the next morning as we are running out of time till our visa ends! The bus leaves at 06:45 tomorrow morning so we didn't watch the film all the way through and got some sleep ready for the journey tomorrow.
