We headed to breakfast when we woke up and sat at a table on the beach again. I felt so bloated from all the snacks last night so ordered fruit and yoghurt with honey and dan went for toast with jam. It was a big bowl full of watermelon, papaya, banana and pineapple with yoghurt and i couldn't finish it as the portion was so big! Once we finished we headed back to the room to pack a bag to take out for the day. While i was getting things ready, daniel went to sort out a scooter to rent for the day which cost us 200 TB.
When the bike was ready, the guy showed it to daniel and ticked off everything like brakes and parts so that they knew what condition it's in when they rent it to us. We were undecided as to which beach to visit as there are so many but decided to head to Salad beach as it was one that a couple had recommended to me while i was out with the girls at stoned bar. I was nervous as anything getting back on the bike especially as the roads can be pretty sandy which makes it a hell of a lot easier to skid and have an accident.
Our first stop was to 7/eleven to stock up on water as it's so so so important to keep hydrated in this heat. We then asked for directions to salad beach and continued with our journey. Once we left town, the roads were quite bendy and steep but the gorgeous scenery made up for it as there were palm trees running along the side of the road and on the other was the view of the sea. As we were driving along, a couple on a scooter overtook us and i spotted the big afro which was exactly the same as the man from the couple i met on phi phi and they pulled over to the side to watch people fall off one of those big cushions on the water, exactly like the show "wipeout". Dan stopped and i walked over to them hoping it was the same couple i had met and thank god it was them. They didn't recognise me at first with the sunglasses and bike helmet on. I asked them which way it was to salad beach and they said they were heading that way and said to follow them so we did.
It took us around 10 minutes to drive to salad beach and i doubt we would have found it without them so we all turned off onto a side road and parked up our bikes before heading down to the beach. It was really beautiful and quite busy and as it was so hot we all stripped off and got in the sea, which unfortunately was as shallow as where we are staying. The water was really warm too. As we all sat in the sea, Zen kept picking sea cucumbers out of the water which i found hilarious. They look like spongey penises and it kind of scared me as i didn't know that they were in the sea, especially so close to the shore!
We stayed in the sea for a while chatting about life and what they do. Ketlin is from Estonia and zen is from wales but they both live and work in Australia in hospitality but also did farm work to extend their visa which is really good money. They both met in Cyprus while she was working there and zen was holidaying there. We got out the sea as all our hands were all crinkled from the water and sat on the sand and had a cigarette. They said that after the beach they are heading to a view point which overlooks a long sand bag connecting koh phangan to another small island so we all hopped back on our bikes and we followed zen as he lead the way.
The roads got a lot steeper, especially the one leading to the viewpoint; our bike almost didn't make it to the top but with a big push we finally made it. We parked up and headed up a hill with loads of rocks and trees to the viewpoint, they had began building a hotel at the top but never finished so there were lots of bricks laying the foundations of the would be hotel. The view was really nice, not as breathtaking as koh phi phi but it was still pretty. We stayed at the top for a while taking it all in (as well as some photos) before heading back down the rocky hill and onto the bikes where we decided to head to the sand bank that we were looking at from the view point.
The water was no where near as clear as it looked from the view point but as it was so hot, we all got in anyway. It was also shallow so there was no chance of any swimming. Zen plucked another sea cucumber from the water which had me laughing as they really do look like penises. We sat in the sea and chatted for a while but i was a bit on edge as you couldn't see the bottom (even though it was so shallow) and didn't want to step on or put my hand on a sea cucumber. I did however feel a crab or something touch my hand which freaked me out quite a bit. We all got out of the sea and sat on the sand for a while soaking up some sun.
After a bit of sunbathing we all got back on the bikes and headed back into town and as we were all driving up a steep bend and round the corner there was a police car and two officers who waved us over to stop. There was another couple who were with them, holding a piece of paper and i thought we were going to get done for not having a license. The officers began searching our bags thoroughly, unwrapping old tissues and smelling fag ends for weed so thank god we didn't bring any with us, i wouldn't have anyway as i'm not keen on getting high and driving a bike! Ketlin said i looked really worried and so thought we had some on us but we didn't. After the search, we were free to go so we mounted back on and followed zendi back to town.
We all decided to head for KFC which is inside a big Tesco lotus store so after the scenic drive back, passing an organic coffee shop and lots of bends and trees we parked up in tesco and headed to get some food. Dan and I ordered a zinger burger meal and zendi got a bucket for him and ketlin and there was a lot of chicken with it! Surprisingly only one french fries though. Near kfc they had a dunkin donuts shop with dozens of colourful glazed donuts behind a glass shield. Daniel went over to have a look but said there were quite a few flies on them which put us off a bit. Once we had all finished eating we headed out to sit on the chairs for a smoke before saying goodbye to zendi and ketlin but we have their facebook details so may meet up with them at the full moon party.
Dan and i went into tesco for munchies and i headed straight to the beauty section as they have loreal and maybelline. It was all so cheap! Well, some things were, i got a baby lips chap stick thing which is pretty expensive back home and i saw a big globe stand full of nail varnish so had a rummage through and got an orange one, which made me think of my mamma. We looked around the fridges and hey had a big help yourself thing of meat: chicken, beef, mince and lots more to pile into a bag and pay for at the counter. They also had an impressive cheese section which included a collection of brie, parmesan, mozzerella, gorgonzola and many more, but for a hefty price! We headed over to the snack aisle and got two packets of mini crunch chocolates for later and a bottle of Hong Thong in preparation for the full moon party tomorrow but as we went to pay at the counter we were told we couldn't buy the alcohol as it is a buddhist holy day. We paid up and got back on the bike to head for 7/eleven for more snacks.
Daniel stayed on the bike while i popped in to stock up and left with cake, crisps and chuppa chups for later. We drove back to the hotel where we got into the pool for a swim. It got dark as we were in the pool throwing a ball to each other from each end of the pool and the beautiful resident husky dog named "wee wa" came to say hello to us and so we stroke him for quite a while. Buddy the American and his friends joined us in the pool, and we all had a chat and were discussing whether or not to go to the jungle experience party that night. Dan and i are undecided as are they but it sounds good and people say it's even better than full moon party! It began to rain pretty heavily and so we got out of the pool and back to the room for a shower.
Once we were dry and changed we headed to the restaurant for some dinner and then back to the room. We got high and didn't end up going to the jungle experience which i kind of regret as it sounded really unique but i guess i can always come back to the island for it!
