We woke up, had a shower and went down to reception to rent a scooter. It was easy enough, Dan just had to fill in a short form and we were given the bike and a helmet. Today we wanted to go to a nicer beach called otres beach because the hassle became too much yesterday at serendipity and there was a lot of rubbish in the sea. The bike cost us $5 for the whole day, until 22:00.
We got on the bike , Dan driving and me behind him and we set off driving along the coast to the otres beach. Dan said as we got on the road "it's the right side innit" which made me laugh, so out of health and safety bounds, if there were any in Cambodia. We had to pull in twice at the beach to ask where the one we wanted is and so we continued along the coast, the roads are really long and straight, perfect! We eventually found it, it looked much more peaceful with a lot less people. We sat at a table on the beach to have breakfast. The seats are so comfortable, ther're shaped like half dones with cushions so it's easy to sink into them and not want to get up for ages. We both ordered scrambled eggs with bacon and toast, dan asked for extra beans. When the food came the eggs were fried and there were massive , thick slices of toast far too generously spread with the margarine they use which is a crime against dairy.
We had a few people approach us selling sunglasses and manicures but they left us alone if we pretended to be asleep. We were laying on two navy cushioned sun loungers right by the sea. I dipped my feet in and the water was warm! So lovely! Although i'm still a bit scared of jellyfish so i'm always paranoid when stepping about in the sea. As we were sunbathing, it was really hot and the sun was blazing. The breeze was so nice and continuous that you wouldn't think the sun was doing much, which is why i ensured i had sun cream on! The same woman from the morning approached me about a pedicure and for $5, it would have been rude not to. She washed my sand covered feet from the sea water and took off my chipped, pink varnish. She then removed my cuticles and filed my nails. I chose a fluorescent pink colour, to match the strap on my havanas and she began painting. When she had finished they looked lovely and it felt so nice to be a bit pampered.
We carried on sunbathing and had spliff. When we went in the sea, Dan played a trick moving suddenly saying "omg whats that?!" And because he moved so suddenly, his promise ring slipped off his finger and into the sea. Panic set in as i was trying to feel the ring on yhe sea bed and dan was trying to dive and feel it. I asked a man swimming near us if he had goggles but he didn't. He then ask a khmer man in one of the boats for goggles and he managed to have two so we both put them on and began searching the sand. The man also began helping us, i just really wanted to find it. At last Daniel found it! What a relief! And that taught him to not make silly jokes to scare me again in the future! ;)
When we got out he took his ring off and put it somewhere safe. We finished off the bag of fresh pineapple we got when i had my pedicure which was so juicy and yummy. We spent the rest of the time sunbathing and swimming in rotation. We got up to pay the bill and the guy who was sorting it out for us had the worst red eye i think I've ever seen. His colleagues were sitting at the bar smoking a joint, shows how laid back and relaxed this place is. There was a small girl walking around holding a cat up by its front legs which looked so funny. We got back on the bike and headed back to town. I had a go for a while which felt great but then let Daniel take over. We ended up going back a slightly different way we came and ended up near our guesthouse but in the other direction. We passed a $1 baguette stall so we parked up and got one with tuna, some weird meat thing and, some weird tofu thing and some long hard leaf that wasn't pleasant: not the best baguette ever.
We parked the bike in the guesthouse ad went to our room and showered. We sat on our balcony and smoked a joint to build up an appetite for dinner. We went to the same place as last night in the end, we walked round the other side onto the beach and there were quite a few restaurants but we fancied another meal on the beach and bbq fresh fish. Daniel ordered the barracuda again and i went for Mullen (marlin in the menu?). It was really tasty and i had a fresh coconut to drink but it was kind of warm. We were contemplating going to jj's which wasn't busy yet so we took a walk along the beach. The walk didn't lead to much so we went back along the beach and went to a stall to buy snacks and head back to the room to chill out and sleep.
