Well we didint do much in Hue, due to having not much time here as we only had on evening and the majority of the next day to cram everything in. We decided to take a boat trip down the Perfume river as we heard this was the best way to see most of the sights in a short time. There was actually some really interesting sights so guide book in hand i was coming out with "did you know..." facts much to Jac's annoyance as she had already read that and told me half an hour before. I think i have developed this auto shut of response when she talks, i think it may be a symptom of spending two months solid with each other, just maybe.
Anyway so we visited the pagoda which was one of the main pagodas' to develop strong teachings against the southern Vietnamese goverment, so much so that a monk from this pagoda drove his car to Saigon outside the palace and set himself on fire in protest against the government it was the first act of self mortification (i think thats what it's called anyway) in the world and has been followed by lots of others since. ( Can you tell i have the lonley planet in front of me) This was really interesting to visit as we had seen the pictures of this monk back in Saigon and it really shocked us. Oh and the presidants wife called it a barbecue party which didn't go down to well, and the president and his brother were later murderd by his own army.
Also on this trip we visited the tomb of the longest reigning emporer of Vietnam which was basically a really nice park (if you could call it that) with a few temples and tombs. This guy was known for his luxurious lifestyle he had something silly like 117 wives and 56 "bits on the side", yet no children. Which makes me think he either got what our Barry got, or a good kick in the balls as a kid. Anyway he adopted a kid and he ruled for 17 days before dying at the age of 15. This site housed both the tomb of his adopted child and his favourate wife (i bet you the other 116 were well pissed off), yet his tombs' location is unknown as he kept it secret so the graverobbers didn't steel all his treasures.
After that we were off to Hanoi on another lovley 12 hour bus ride overnight. It was short and sweet but factfull. So we hope learned something here, you never know i could be on the bbc soon, D'ya reckon a scouse accent would sound good on Blue planet.
Loads of love
