This is likely to be the last blog I write while abroad. I had been carrying my suit on the outside of my bag since I bought it, and it hadn't fallen out once. It would so happen that it falls out into the minibus as we arrive in Bangkok and I only noticed as we had walked down into Khao San. This was the only time I am thankful for Bangkok traffic jams, the minibus had moved about 2 metres from where it dropped us off and the driver handed me back my suit. For our last 3 nights we decided to treat ourselves to a nice hotel. We booked into D&D Inn, a similar room to cheaper hotels we have stayed in but there is a swimming pool on the roof! We wondered around the area for a bit but just watched TV for most of the evening as we were shattered. The next day was Will's birthday, we slept in for a bit and then headed to the Grand Palace. It certainly was grand but in a different way to Angkor, everything was covered in gold and coloured tiles. It took us about an hour to look around, before we headed back to the hotel, had a swim and grabbed some lunch. We then caught a local bus to the downtown area in rush hour, which was not clever. We did some shopping in the huge shopping mall and tried to find somewhere to eat, however we weren't successful and it started to rain so we decided to head back to Khao San. Of course when it rains, all transport racks up it's prices by at least double, however Will managed to bargain down to less than half price for a Tuk Tuk. We both got drenched as it poured down for the whole journey and there was still a traffic jam. We ran to the nearest restaurant and ordered a feast to the waiters amusement. There was live music and we stayed for a while. We headed back to the hotel, Will suddenly feeling a lot worse than he had done the whole day. He didn't feel up to going out, but said I could still go if I wanted to. I felt a bit guilty about leaving him but it was the end of the trip as well as his birthday and I wanted to make the most of it. I went to one bar and met a guy who was travelling on his own at the time, then I moved onto a different bar later on where I met a group of people, some who had flown in that day and some who were flying out the day after us. We had a few drinks before heading home.
We had another lie in this morning, getting up at 12 and then grabbing some lunch. We have no plans for today except starting to get our bags packed and sorting out what to put in our extra suitcase.
We leave tomorrow. It is exciting but at the same time it's a little sad. We have been travelling for a long time, and it seems longer than 2 months ago when we flew into Singapore. Some things seem like they happened yesterday, others a long time ago. I definately want to come back to the region. I was going to say where I wanted to visit again but I would be listing every country, there have been things in each place that we have had to miss out, usually due to time, so it would be nice to come back and do them sometime in the future.
