After La Ceiba, Mike and I made our way over to Utila, an island about an hours boat ride from the mainland. The main reason to visit this island is for scuba diving, and SEEING WHALESHARKS!!! So we decided to stay here for 4 days, and do some diving in the morning, and relax in the afternoon - good way to spend a few days!!
The diving overall was pretty good. The only thing that disappointed us was the lack of fish, especially big fish. Sometimes we were searching for life down there lol. But for most dives, the coral was beautiful and we did see a pretty cool Blue Spotted Eagle Ray a couple of times. On one of our dives, at a site called Pretty Bush- Labyrinth, we were swimming through these beautiful large coral and cave formations, surrounded by lots of colourful reef fish. Definately one of the best dive sites!
There was plenty of time to chill out and relax after the diving. One bar we went to was called the Tree-tanic Bar, and it is probably one of the cooolest bars we have seen...and will ever see. It was built up in the trees, surrounded by a jungle garden (full of banana palm trees and big yellow banana spiders that were scary!!), and had lots of different levels and stairs going in all directions. The garden itself was just as crazy as the bar, full of marble sculptures and paths. Its certainly a place to see!!
Sadly we saw no whaleshark...and we were slightly disappointed, seeing as that was one of the main reasons why we wanted to go to Utila. But never mind, we had a good 4 days diving and you can't argue with the prices out here either!
