As we set off from Paris, we really felt like we didn't want to leave such an amazing place yet but all these thoughts were dispelled once we were closing in on Switzerland.
After we woke up from our short slumber in the bus, we found ourselves travelling in a picture perfect natural arena. View of lakes and lagoons and of course the snow capped mountains took our breath away. We couldn't wait for us to get to our next destination, Lauterbrunnen!
When we finally got there, it was evening and we were settled into our respective 4-share cabins without much hassle. The place was totally fantasy. Its waterfalls, snow-capped mountains, lush greeneries and lovely houses all surrounding our campsite. It took a while for us to recover from the awe of the place. Then its off to The Topdeck tent where the site rep whipped up a delicious meal for us.
Daniel wasted no time in telling us about the place and what we could do there. He then brought on a short orientation in the village at night. Though all the places were closed but the lightings of the street (there was really only 1 street there..cosy!) and the quiet and peaceful atmosphere was great.
Daniel then explained to us the optionals available, which he already did before on the bus, again. Me and Mike decided to go for the Jungfrau excursion while some others decided to stay behind to attempt the skydiving.
We had a night of authentic Tequila party (tequila courtesy of our mexican friend) where we got quite a bit of the group into our room and played some simple and fun drinking games. It was really nice bonding early on in the trip. We then rested after all the fun. Then ifs off we went to the train station and to the TOP OF EUROPE after a hearty breakfast.
The ride up to the top was cool. We get to see the town from the top as we head up and the sight of the town looking so little from the top was interesting. We had a couple of stops along the way for us to go to the loo and to catch the view from those stop points as well.
When we finally reached the top after the 2hour train ride, we heeded straight for the outside and were greeted by the most captivating view ever, snow covered ground at the top of the mountain with all the surrounding mountains arranged in a formation only mother nature could come up with.
The sights were simply breathtaking. But it didn't last long as a huge fog eventually formed and the viewing range were severely limited. And the worst thing is that the husky rides were stopped due to the weather condition which was totally disappointing. But it did snow to our surprise as we didn't expect snow in the summer.
But I did manged to try the 250 metres slide on the outside. I had a hard time trying to find my way back though as the fog was so great i couldn't see anything more than a couple of metres in front of myself. I thought I was gonna get lost on the mountains! And being severely under-dressed, I was trembling from the cold as well. But luckily my gang called out to me and I was able to make my way back following their voices. Survived!
There's also some sort of a ice palace up there too. The sculptures are pretty interesting and the place was nicely set up and decorated. After exploring what the Jungfraujoch had to offer, we found a nice spot to have the packed lunch which was prepared by the site rep before we left the camping ground.
After lunch, we had a last minute look at the outside before we finally bid goodbye to the place and return back to the camping ground. Once back, we headed for the Trummelbach Falls which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site just behind the ground. We went there on foot which took us abt 40 minutes but it was all worth it as we managed to take in quite a bit of sights along the way.
After we paid the entrance fee, we were brought into a giant elevator which sort brought us to a starting point in the caves where the falls are. The caves were really interesting, and it wasn't difficult to navigate around the place. The water was gushing at a tremendous pace and was awesome. After you've seen the place, you will then know why its adopted by the UNESCO. A truly magnificent work of art by mother nature.
We quickly returned back to camp just before it got dark and had dinner once again beautifully prepared by the site rep. We caught a bit of rest before we head for the bar just beside our cabins. Almost everyone was there and the booze was really flowing. It was wild and fun! There was another TopDeck group there as well. It has got to be the best mountain top bar. Never expected such a beautiful place to be so fun in this way as well. World Class.
Thats how we ended our stay in Switzerland, high!
