Filled the tank as diesel was only 1.179 Euro a litre and headed for Germany... it's was only a few hundred metres before we hit the border. Having travelled a few kilometres we encountered a sign that would become the bane of our day (umleitung it means diversion) and we met at least a dozen of them on the journey to Menk. Even the exit we needed from the motorway was umleitung, then the satnav decided we should be going to Boehinger pharmaceutical headquarter...

After a lazy start we decided to walk to the chateaux above the town! We took the scenic route again... covered about 3 miles all uphill some of it very very steep. We actually ended up at the bar at the top of the chair lift, what a lovely place to spend a silly Sunday. The views down to the town and chateaux were breathtaking. Walked down via the chateaux then stopped for ice cream. Shame we leave tomorrow.

A somewhat relaxed drive, really took our time and enjoyed the scenery. Stopped a couple of times to let Bella stretch her legs. Only got lost once, but it was fortunate as we stopped by a reservoir and Bella had a run. Went through a lovely town called Civey (see picture). Arrived at the campsite Op Dem Dyke in Vianden late afternoon. No-one at reception so we chose a plot next to the river, great views of the chateaux. Had dinner out and a few beers then came ...

Spent last night at Black Horse Farm campsite (or bunny city) Bella was beside herself trying to get at them. Perfect site for a stopover with an easy drive down to Dover. At least it would've been had I not lost a crown this morning. Lesley remembered that pharmacies carry emergency tooth repair kits, so off we go! Arrived at Camping Hortensius after a somewhat adventurous drive. My fault really as I'd told the Satnav to ignore toll roads, thinking we would be taking scenic back roads and enjoying the relative peace and quiet, oh contraire!
