I finally managed to execute my long awaited morning run, and whilst it only lasted half an hour it did give me a great view of the sun climbing through the cloud banks over the sea whilst trying to negotiate the herd of cows which had taken up residence in the sand outside our hotel.
After breakfast we walked up to the kite centre and met our enthusiastic Aussie instructor George. He took us through basic kite skills, rigging, packing away and before long we were attached to bigger kites waist deep in the aquamarine water.
Having dabbled with kites a little myself I held back during George's Q&A and the other 3 embraced the challenge and as a group we were flying. Charlie did literally take off at one point, as well as performing an advanced impromptu 2 man face down head first body drag much to the surprise of my sinuses. The power was exhilarating and we spent most of our time trying to dissipate it but it suggested how exciting the next few lessons could get.
Other than picking up a few sea urchin spines day 1 was a roaring success and we were very ready for lunch when we finally disbanded.
After our bellys were filled at the rooftop restaurant overlooking the buzzing mele of kite surfers we wandered through Paje, picked up a few things at the surprisingly westernised supermarket and scooted back for an afternoon date with the sun loungers.
We returned for supper at 'Paje by night' which had a buzzing surfer vibe but whilst my marlin special was excellent, Bob and Charlie's pizzas were missing a certain something which they pinpointed to be flavour itself. We returned a little disappointed and fell asleep instantly after the day's activities and 3 square meals.
