I persuaded my legs to take me a little further on my morning run as the sun battled through the low, dense clouds which had amassed overnight. Having polished off an early breakfast we remained surprisingly dry for our walk up the beach though the wind proved fickle and although heavy rain clouds flew across the sky the wind at ground level dropped away to nothing as we arrived at the kite centre.
George remained positive and we chilled out at Mr. Kahawa's cafe in the absence of both sun and wind which was ironic considering the heatwave which the UK was experiencing. After numerous rounds of cards we admitted defeat and returned to our Bandas at Pakachi, postponing our lesson to the next day when the wind was forecast to be better. We set about trying to re-arrange our accommodation and read our books through til late afternoon when we took a taxi to the infamous Rock Restaurant at Michamvi.
We left the taxi and walked into the beach just after the sun disappeared. The beach was stunning and in the middle of the bay was a tiny white building perched atop an outcrop of coral. We were carried across the full moon's highest tide on an old fishing boat, dragged to the foot of the steps by a friendly local. Once 'onboard' the island we sat on the small terrace and looked out at the sea which surrounded us on 3 sides as the dusky red moon started its journey into the sky.
The menu was a fusion of local seafood and traditional Italian fare and when it arrived the meal was suitably deserving of the location, even the lucky choice of wine was widely appreciated! By the time we'd licked the plates clean and paid the bill the tide had retreated so we could walk across the pristine white sand back to the taxi who piloted us home to a very full nights sleep.
