Miffy's Mischievous Adventures
Hi Guys,
To my amazement, the bloke was waiting for us in reception at 06:20 as promised and getting the bus was fine. We collected a few other people in Surat Thani before hitting the the 401 to the other side of the country. We met a lovely dutch girl called Cyrina who was traveling alone and we chatted to her for most of the three hour journey. The scenery on the way was beautiful as Thailand is very mountainous and green.
We arrived in Kho Sok and checked in to a place call Jungle Huts and no one was around. It is the wrong time of year to be over this side of the country as it is the start of the rainy season. It was strange as it really seemed that no one was here, which was really nice. As soon as we sat in the restaurant the heavens opening and it chucked it down. I was getting the impression that this was going to be the norm!
The accommodation is getting cheaper as this gaff cost me one fifty a night. We had a look round and there wasn\'t much other than a few other places to stay as we headed back to jungle huts were we discovered another westerner! WOW. She was making a dress and top out of two decks of cards! We were then invited to a themed play \"clothes that are not clothes\" and going naked was fine too.... It turns out that a group of 30 Canadians on a package tour were in town and it was someones birthday. This got Colin and I thinking and our best idea was to empty our main sacks and step into them so they covered the crown jewels. The party started at 14:00 so we thought we would have something to eat and attend a bit later.
Within that time Cyrina had looked us up and we had a really relaxing afternoon chatting and having a laugh. It was getting late so the three of us decided to meet up for some tea and then hit the party.
The party was good and the Canadians were hammered and looked really good. The girl in the cards had managed to make herself a mini skirt and boob tube which look cool and another bloke just had a Singha beer box and two pieces of string over his shoulders - quality. It was a really good and unexpected night.
We hit the Kho Sok National Park jungle the next day and it was a glorious day. We set out on a trek and we had two friends following/leading us. These two dogs just started walking with us which was a great help in the end. As soon as we entered the jungle we spotted a baby snake which was nice but apart for that, and all the leeches we didn\'t see much wildlife which was a shame. With all the leeches about, it was lucking that Cyrina had bought some salt with her as the little b*****s don\'t seem to like it when you pour it on them! In all we trekked 12km in the National Park and it was a hot hot day so it was shattering work. At the half way mark we decided to jump into the Sok river which was well deserved and needed as we all had sweated buckets. We did get lost on the way back which wasn\'t a nice feeling and to our rescue was the two dogs. No word of a lie they just kept disappearing and them popping up again all the time we were in the jungle. This time they led us back the the so called trail with was a relief! Thanks boys
The next day we were up early for a two and a half hour elephant trek. Again the weather was stunning and the elephant trek was magical. There is something so special about elephants. They are so powerful and strong yet they are really gentle. We started off on the back of the elephants who just plodded through the jungle and streams like they were having a sunday stroll. It was really relaxing and peaceful. After about an hour we stopped of at a beautiful rock pool and waterfall so the elephants could have a rest in the shade. So we all jumped into the rock pool which was really refreshing. On the way back I was able to sit on the elephants neck all the way back. A truly magical experience.
In the afternoon we went tubing. In a nut shell laying on a rubber ring and flying down stream of the Kho Sok river. It was excellent and so much fun, especially the tarzan rope swing that we used to swing off the bank of the river and let go to go flying into the water. I really enjoyed the Kho Sok national park but it was time to leave the following day on local bus, heading for Phuket.
Bye for now
