Hi all,
The coach journey to Kho Chang was a bit of a strange affair. We boarded the VIP coach and there was only four of us on it.....! Normally they are jammed packed. We arrived at the pier at 03.30 in the morning and told to sleep on the bus until 07.00 when the ferry left.
We arrived on Kho Chang and to our surprise there wasn't anyone to meet us to try and sell us accommodation, taxi, fruit etc etc So we had to speak to a local that agreed to taxi us to Whitesands Beach. We had a wander along the beach and a massage before leaving to get to Kho Mak, a small island a couple of hours away on a boat.
Kho Mak juist looked mega when we were mooring up. The sea was so blue, the sand white and no one in sight, this is a real secluded island. We had booked accommodation on the other side of the island and I was hoping that that was going to be this amazing.
We arrived at Monkey Island Resort and it didn't disappoint. The hut was as basic as it gets with a hammock on the balcony - it was perfect. While Becki was dumping all her stuff all over the floor I had a relax in the hammock - oh how I have missed a hammock. While I was relaxing there was an almighty thud. Just a couple of metres away a coconut had dropped from a palm tree. This worried me as while I was on Kho Tao I had been informed that there are 8 deaths a year from falling coconuts in Thailand. It wouldn't be a nice way to go trust me and from that moment I couldn't walk directly under the palm trees. Oh dear, Kho Mak is a beautiful beautiful island which is lined with leaning palm trees.
We quickly donned the swimming wear and hit the beach - WOW.......! The beach was totally ours (basically). The nearest sun worshipers were 100 metres away and during the entire day we only saw four people walk past - magic. The sea was fantastic too and like walking into a warm bath and as soon as you hit the beach again you were dry as the weather was excellent. I could get use to this secluded paradise island life......!
I loved my four days on Kho Mak. It was so peaceful and relaxing. We also had a day trip to Kho Kham another small island half an hour away from Kho Mak. There are only twelve huts on the island and it has a little sand bank running into the sea that you can sunbathe on. It was a good day but soured a bit by what we witnessed at lunch. There was an Italian couple with their littlun' who was happily running around. Needless to say he had an accident in his pants. So what does the mother do....! Picks him up and walks down to the beach, digs a shallow grave in the sand and drops the contents of the wee nippers pants into it and covers it in sand to bury it. She then walks a couple of metres to the shore line of the sea and washes the kids arse, thighs and underwear with the crystal clear sea water that people were swimming in earlier. After this she enters the restaurant and starts eating her lunch with her hands. The toilets were about ten metres away on the other side of the restaurant. As I've said before, God love the Italians. That afternoon I was very careful were I walked and made sure I didn't swollow any sea water......!
Koh Mak, what a place, you struggled to get a drink between 15.00 and 18.00 as there was nowhere open to sell you a drink. So you helped yourself and left the money on the side - magic.
To Kho Chang to have a ganda and see Amy again
Bye for now
