Miffy's Mischievous Adventures
Hi all,
Here is a brief description of what I've been up to for the last four days in Bangkok!
Day 1 - We arrived safely and soon down Khoa San road wandering round trying to find our hotel. We found it after about 15 minutes and was quickly back out to grab some food and a beer after the long journey. I had a thai green curry with was really really hot with I loved - it was quality. After a couple of large Shingha (6%) Colin and I were getting a little tired and were planning to hit the hay. However we were approached by a thai chick promoting Shark! We tried it and sharply ordered vodka's and shark. Gob knows what was in it but we both weren't tired anymore! We ended up in a place called Gullivers and bumped into Cat, a girl that we shared a taxi with as she was traveling alone. I then started talking to a couple called Chris and Leander. We all got-on really well and just very very drunk!! To the streets for some food.....
Day 2 - We got up at 3 the next afternoon as I was a bit jet lagged (had nothing to do with the alcohol) and went out for some food - red thai curry today. We jumped on the nearest tuk tuk and went to see Wat Intrawihan - The Standing Buddha and Wat Samphaya. The Standing Buddha was fantastic and the small ground surrounding the Buddha were really peaceful. The Buddha is 54 meters. Wat Samphaya was a small reclining Buddha and we got talking to a local thai gentleman who was talking us Thai... In the evening was met up with Chris and Leander for a couple of social drinks and an early night.
Day 3 - We were up early door to go and investigate Bangkok by foot. Before this I had a traditional thai breakfast of noodles and stir fried vegetable - very nice indeed. Out we went with our map in toe - the weather was blistering hot without a cloud in the sky. I believe it was around 37 degrees - lovely day to go out for a walk! The places on our hit list were Wat Prakaeo (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), The Grand Palace and Wat Pho (Reclining Buddha). We arrived at the Wat Prakaeo Grounds approximately 15 minute after setting off and we didn't even get lost - bonus. It cost us 250 baht each (three fifty) to enter and it was well worth every penny. We were both taken aback, it was like entering a magical, enchanted kingdom. It's the only way to describe it and the pictures just don't do it justice. As we had spent so much time in Wat Prakaeo we had to head back to complete a quick hotel swap. Once we had checked in to the D&D Inn and eat chicken, chilli's and rice it was time to find Wat Po. On the way I had a bit of bother. In a nut shell this bird seed seller basically throw bird seed at me then demanded money! cheeky ba**ard.... not a chance. Wat Po was amazing! the size of this Buddha was unreal. We jumped into a tuk tuk and requested to go to The Golden Mount (Phukhao Thong Wat Saket). We scaled the hundred of stairs and reached the Temple! I much admit it was a little disappointing - but a cracking view of Bangkok! Back on Khao San to hit the markets to buy a couple of things. I ended up buying a pair of shorts, a vest and a pair of flip flops, totaling approx ten quid. We then eat off the street stalls again with serve up quality grub! Padthai, noodles, thai style stir fry's, meat sticks in beautiful sauces, bugs and allsorts all for around 25 bahts (35p). Oh and fruit to, half a pineapple is 10 baht...
To be continued soon - must fly as my 14 hour bus ride has arrived!! I'm not looking forward to this but is transport and a night accommodation all in one for the bargin price of 350 baht (five quid).
So were was I..... After walking for most of the day in the extreme heat we both wanted to relax and get away from the hussle and bussle of Bangkok and especially Khoa San road. So, to the pool on the roof top of the D&D Inn. The roof was seven stories high and was really peaceful with a few naked people in the pool and a few people seating at the bar. We just laid down and dangled our legs in the pool. It was gorgeous as my feet were throbbing. The weather was still quality and hot. I discovered this little secluded area were thai massages were be completed. I had a thai message and it cost me 180 baht (two fifty) for an hours. It was amazing, it strangle because its sometimes painful and they can be pretty rough with you but you just feel great when it is completed. How I was in a state of complete relaxation it was time to pollute my body with an ice cool beer. At the bar Colin and I met a couple of girls from Bristol called Kath and Collette. We ended up speaking to them until the early hours.
Day 5 - we were up 15 minutes after breakfast had finished which seems to be the case more often than not. So we went and relaxed around the pool until we had to check out at 12. Kath and Collette were there so we spent the time with them. We checked out and ate from the stalls again and I had some really hot thai stir fry which was tremendous. We had some time to kill as we were leaving Bangkok for some beach action on Ko Samui. To the internet to write me Statravel journal. I had allsorts of issues. The computer wouldn't recognise my camera so I had to then burn them you CD and do it that way - more money. I don't think any system is going to recognise my camera which means no picture! I wrote my first entry and it did save. Was getting really stressed but finally after two and a half hours I managed to submit an entry and store some pictures.
We had to walk for about 10 minutes to get to the bus and was soaked through with sweat - nice considering I was about to be on a bus for approximately 14 hours. While waiting for the bus I started talking to two blokes called David and David. Both seemed cool however David was a little quiet as he had the sh*ts and wasn't feeling to good at all. They had both just arrived in Bangkok from Cambodia on a 16+ hour bus journey and now another 14 hours to Ko Samui! Now that is hardcore traveling.
I sat next to a Swiss lady called Edith. Her English was excellent and we talked loads, I was teaching her British saying that she didn't understand and she was telling me loads of interesting places to go as she had done loads of traveling. To my diagonal left were two Swedish girls, one of which extremely beautiful. Pigtail and allsorts! So I made it my mission to get talk to them. Karin was her name and unfortunately she was off to Ko Phi Phi on the other side of the country I was going to. I took her email address though, you never know when I'll be in Sweden! Time to see if I can get some shut eye!
Bye for now
