I arrived in Panajachel or Pana as the locals call it, after 28hours of chicken buses and was exhausted.!! I grabbed a chicken and rice dinner (I'm sick of rice let me tell you so I must have been tired and hungry) then crashed out in hostel Linda, I had a private room for a little extra cost..
Pana is a small tourist town with great views of lake Atitlan and the surrounding hills and volcanos, I was eager to climb one the volcanoes in the next couple days but I was also as eager to catch up with a couple of friends I hadn't seen since Ecuador.. Alex and Emma, they were in the party town around the lake known as San pedro.. I headed there on the Friday by boat, it was a 40minute crossing that was just eye candy.! The hills, forest and volcanoes that surround the lake are a great sight, of green foliage and steep climbs.. Did I really wanna climb a volcano.??
We partied that night at a bar with a beat the clock theme.. Simple enough, 5pm beers are 5Q, 6pm they are 6Q, 7pm 7Q and so on.. Idea is to last till midnight of fcuk off somewhere cheaper once 8/9pm comes haha.. Myself and Alex can chew the ear of a donkey at the best of times but tonight we had so much to share in travels but the conversation was as ever for me, MUSIC..!! Or our love of artists, this boy needs to leave Australia and head to London as he is a true music fan and so far from great music.. We partied till gone 3am and spent the next day nursing our sore heads and eating cheap food.. I decided to have a days rest then climb one the many volcanoes in the area..
It was about 2 hours in, that I remembered why I didn't wanna climb up a volcano..!! The walking, steps and climbing bit, yeah ok the views are amazing and you get a good photo but fcuk me it's hard work.. We left at 6am and was at the top by 11am, it was tough with little to see until the top.. Having the lake around the foot of the volcano made it a very impressive view and great photo opportunity but I won't rush to climb another that for sure.. I decided to leave the lake couple days later (after some rest) and head north with the chance to poss catch Alex and Emma again.. Coban and Flores where my destinations but all that can wait for next time:
Coban and the rainbow tribes, Flores friends reunited Again, and Tikal start of the Mayan ruins..
Peace out much love Micky xxx
