After breakfast, Barbara and I strolled off the ship into a damp Funchal. We caught a local bus (€1.95) to the botanical gardens. It was cool but the light rain stopped as we arrived. After exploring the gardens we took the cable car to Monte and then another to the town.

Back in Funchal, we ate lunch al fresco and strolled back to the ship past the nativity and other Christmas decorations, stopping for another beer on the way.

In the evening we played Scatergories, where, I have to say, we lowered the tone somewhat and still didn’t win! Rather than going to the Syndicate Quiz, we stayed in Champions for the musicals quiz, scoring 18/30 making us joint winners. We lost the tie break. Unsurprising, as in two world cruises we’ve only ever won one!!
