What a beautiful island. We arrived early and when I opened my curtains, the view was gobsmacking. The weather was very hot and humid. We were moored in a gorgeous bay, the island rose up in front of us verdant and mountainous, behind us was a reef with a small gap, that we had crept through.
This was another tender port and we got on to the island about 10:15. All that was there were some stalls selling various tourist stuff. A guy was running free trips to his shop, so we took it. The shop was opposite the Moorea Intercontinental hotel. We went there. It's a beautiful place. I was interested to see it, as I had considered staying there last year.
We had booked a 4x4 tour of part of the island. It was bouncy, steep, uncomfortable and brilliant fun. The views were stunning. We saw Opunohue Bay and Mount Rotui. At the first stop, we climbed an extremely steep path to the most amazing view. We could see the ship moored in Opunohue Bay and all of the reefs around it. There was a narrow channel that the tenders had to take to get to the dock. We then saw a plantation of various fruits, including pineapples, bananas and grapefruits. Our driver grabbed a coconut and first of all he removed the husk with his teeth, then he gave me a stone and I managed to crack open the nut with three hits.
Then we visited a couple of places selling juice and alcohol. I had a fresh pineapple juice with lime, delicious.
Back on board it was Shrove Tuesday so I had pancakes, sugar and lemon juice for dessert. I lost the Individual quiz. We lost the tie break in the pub quiz and we lost in Syndicate too. There was a problem with retrieving tender number 5 so we left at 21:15 instead of 18:00. When I looked out over the side, there were about six outrigger canoes in the dark and the men were fishing.
A brilliant day on a beautiful island.
