Arrived about 7.30. I got off the ship quite early to send/receive emails and upload blogs. Came back on board and met Barbara, Phil & Yvonne, Rob & Linda in Raffles. Spoke to the two members of The Karpenters whilst waiting for everyone to arrive.
We strolled into town, which seems older than Oranjestad. The town is split in half by a water course and this is crossed by either a ferry or a floating pontoon bridge, which moves to one side to let marine craft through. In places it was reminiscent of Amsterdam. The buildings are all brightly coloured and full of shops, many quite expensive. We sat and had a local beer in one of the town squares, then everyone but Barbara and I went back to the ship.
We strolled around some more. Then decided to cross back over to the other side and see what shops were there. We got on to the pontoon just as it was about to move. There were no barriers at either end. We floated over to the other side and strolled down the bridge to the end. We couldn't get off the bridge until it had resumed its position.
There wasn't much to see on this side if the town, so we meandered back to the ship. The weather was hot and sunny, tempered by a nice breeze. Sailaway was much better today. Just after dinner we passed Aruba, but as it was dark, we only saw the lights and I couldn't see where the hotel in which I'd stayed, was. Lost the Masquerade Quiz by one point and the Syndicate Quiz by the same margin. I told Rosemary and Veronica that I'd be giving the Syndicate Quiz a rest after San Francisco.
The captain postponed the time change until tomorrow, so we could have longer in bed before we transit the Panama Canal on Monday. A good day.
