Sad day. We said our goodbyes to Antwerp which has been our "home away from home" for the past five weeks. After a day of packing and errand running we had a final group dinner in Antwerp along the river at a place called Samurai. It was similar to Kobes (hibachi grill where they cook at your table). When we walked in they made you put on a Kimono which was pretty entertaining to see everyone sit through the meal wearing bright red silk robes. It ended up to be a three hour meal with six courses! We started off with sushi, which was really good. A lot of people in the group had not had sushi before so it was fun to watch their reactions to the tastes. Then we had our first round of cooking on our table which was salmon, angel fish and grilled veggies. They gave us about a 20 minute break before they came out to cook again. The third course was grilled glazed chicken and grilled cabbage and other vegetables. After that round we got some sorbet to "cleanse our pallet" and then we got filet mignon and Japanese noodles and rice. We ate so much food it was unreal. They gave us about a half hour before they brought desert which consisted of ice-cream with fruit in a dish that had dry ice in it and came out steaming. It was a really cool place to end such a good time in Antwerp.
After dinner we headed back through Antwerp and back to the apartments to finish packing. The guys had not even started so people sat around and drank and packed. Then around midnight some people headed out to the bars. We did not attempt to pull the all nighter again but a few people did not go to bed and were our 5am entertainment for the first part of the trip. It was a fun and successful last night in Antwerp .
We walked to the bus a little before five in the pouring rain. We loaded our bags and hopped on board. Thank God for the pillow and blankets Michelle and I invested in this week to take on this road trip. We stopped for food at around 10 in Luxembourg and because of European laws buses have to take a 45 in break every four hours…bad law and makes for a long day. We watched Startrek and Pride and Prejudice during the day and stopped in Riquewihr, France for lunch and to explore a little bit. It was such a cute town and reminded me of the town out of Beauty and the Beast. We had lunch at a Crepe place and then some of us finished ontime to make it to a wine tasting. Our meal was not finished on time so we missed it but we will wine taste in Italy.
We got back on the bus and headed toward Switzerland. We had another 4 hours before we arrived in Bern, Switzerland at our hotel. Michelle and I got our hotel keys and headed to our room, opened the door of our hotel room we about cried/laughed because their were no words. This place we are staying in is interesting to say the least. It looks like a cruise ship room with a 6 years olds bedroom decor. Ps. The beds—equally as hard as the Paris ones. We are pretty excited for an awesome night sleep tonight :/ After we changed quick we met everyone for dinner just on the other side of our hotel. Ha, oh wow- since I got to Europe I do not think we have had a worse meal. We had to laugh just because today has been one of those days. We got potatoes with Swiss Cheese and some salad dressing with some spinach in it. I ate it cause I had not been able to eat Crepes so I was starving….horrible idea. I ended up getting sick and most people feel like crap now. The meal definetly did not agree with anyone so we are headed out here soon to find a different place to grab some other food. As long of a day as it has been it has been a lot of fun and a memorable bus ride. Tomorrow we are headed into the snow and up into the tops of the Swiss Alps! Hope all is well back home. Michelle says hi!
