So we are off to a great start in our traveling adventures just Michelle and I.... We got to bed around 3:30am and Michelle wokr up at 5:30 thinking it was 6:30 and time to get ready to go. Wrong, it was actually an hour earlier. So then I laid there and worried we would not here our alarm so Igot up to shower and pack. We went and woke up most of the girls so we could say goodbye because they wanted us to when we got up. Michelle and I made our way to breakfest and ran into Kyle and Scott. as we were fnisihing Adam, Casey, and Andrew were coming home on the shuttle from Antwerp where they went to spend the last night to see some friends they met. Michelle and I tried to catch the 6:40 shuttle but missed it. We tried to catch the 7:20 one and it did not show up and so we finally caught the 7:40 one and they packed it so full we ran late. We had to make a 9:15am flight.
We pulled into the airport and sprinted to get borading passes and check bags. At this point it was 8:15 and we were in a hurry. We knew our first bag to check would be free so we figured the second one would be about 23 bucks. Never have we been so wrong.....they sent us to a differnt counter and we had not choice to check our second bags. they were weighed. Michelles total to check bag #2 = TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS. Melanies total to check bag #2 = NINTY DOLLARS. We were so pissed but we could not leave a bag so we had to keep going and just pay the stupid fee. At this point Michlle looked on the verge of a breakdown and I was just trying to keep myself from jumping over the ticket counter and flipping out at the ticket lady. I got no where and by then it was 8:45 and we were boarding in 15 minutes.
Next problem: Never have I seen a security line so long in all of my life. The lines were so long the moving sidewalks were shut off for standing waiting room. We waited until 8 minutes before boarding time and did not even reach where the security line usually is supposed to begin. Being me, i jumped up and down until I flagged a lady and quickly said we will miss our flight if we do not get through. She was not happy with us and told us we should have been on time but reluctanlty let us through. Thank God she let us into the fast lane and we booked it through security, stuff flying everywhere, ran up escalators and finally found our gate. We made it! We did not get seats together and sat on the run way from a good 45 minutes. We just needed to be in Germany.
When we landed we got our bags and went and found Michlles cousins. They are really fun and nice. We had a two hour drive and on the way back they took us to an authentic German restauraunt for lunch. We got to their house around 3:30pm and got to finally shower and rest up a little. We are just hagning out now and getting our plans for tonight ready.
Glad we made it to Germany. Not so glad it cost us a fortune. We are each shiping a bag home tomorrow from the militaty base because Michelles cousin Jason who we are staying here with is stationed here and can do it for pretty cheap. So we will not run into that problem again in London or going home! Hopefully the rest of the group is safely in the air over the east coast at this point. Enjoy being back and home and Europe is not the same without all of you.
We will keep you all updated as Michelle and I continue to conquer the rest of Europe on our own. It is crazy we will be home on Thursday!
