Well we made it to Austria last night. We had a low key night and most people stayed in their rooms to catch up on Skype, blogging and uploading pictures. Michelle went to bed around 12:30. I could not sleep for the life of me, I had so much energy from the bus ride, I did not end up going to bed until 4am this morning which made our 8am wakeup a little more difficult. Michelle and I had breakfast at 8 with Baylee, Kyle, Scott, and Lindsey this morning and then came back to the room to get ready to go. The bus left the hotel to head to Hitler's Eagles nest in Germany which was only about a 45min ride from our hotel in Austria.
Once we made it to the place, we loaded another bus that took us up the mountain just below the Eagles Nest. We then had a long walk down a cold tunnel to a brass elevator that took us to the top of the mountain and up to Hitler's Eagle Nest. Elevators still suck but I think this trip has made me a little more accepting of being in them. When we made it to the top we got a tour around. All the inside ceilings and walls and stones are all original, it is kind of a creepy feeling to be in the same spot that Hitler used to be at. We got to walk around and hike around up further and around the Eagles Nest until we all met at the restaurant around1:00. We had brats, sauerkraut and roasted potatoes with soup for lunch. It is good to have meat and potatoes back in our diets here. We got more time to explore the Bavarrian Alps which is where the Eagle Nest is. A few of us choose to hike down the mountain instead of take the elevator, it was gorgeous. I tried to take a picture of flower up close and ended up getting this burning plant all over my arm and broke out in a rash which burned and sucked but luckily it went away pretty much by tonight.
By the time we got to the bottom of the mountain we were all dying of heat. We were told to dress warm because we would be up high. Even up high it never got less than 70 degrees and at the bottom it was around 85 in the sun. Pants and northfaces were not a good idea. Michelle, Kailiee, Lindsey and I opted to look like natural hikers and tie the jackets around our waists which was a very attractive look let me say. We loaded the bus and headed back down the mountain to get on our bus and head over to the Austira alps. We took a cable car from the bottom of the mountain which gave us incredible views.
At the top it was a million degrees but we hiked up a ways and then Devon and I came back down to the restraint part that over looked the range to get water and just look at the view. We eventually all met up again and headed back down to the bottom.
We saw a lot of mountain rainges today and experiences a lot of heat. By 4:30 we just all wanted into shorts before we had to walk to downtown Salsburg for a short tour of the city. When we got to the hotel to change it started storming really bad and hailing. We had to wait a while until we were able to go and do our wlaking tour. It cooled down and then the nest front of warm weather came in. It is so muggy here right now. After our tour which we got to see a lot of places that were used in filming The Sound of Music. We got to try some Austria chocolate ball things and then we all split for dinner. Lindsey, Kailee, Michelle, Devon, Amy and I found a cool restaurant called Zipfer that was really good. I had mixed grilled meat with potatoes and vegetables. Michelle had sausage and potatoes. After dinner Amy, Devon and I headed straight back to the hotel to shower and get ready for the night. Michelle, Lindsey and Kailee got back soon after us. We are all now waiting for everyone to wake up from naps and get showered and then we are headed out to explore the night life of Austria.
The bus heads out of here at 7:30 tomorrow morning. Another early morning but a lot of time to sleep on the bus. We have a long ride to Trier, Germany tomorrow to spend the afternoon and have dinner there before we drive to Luxembourgh tomorrow night which is where we are staying and is officially our last stop as a group before we head back to Belgium Friday to send everyone else back to Fargo :(
