Checked out of haunted hollows before 12:00 and walked across town to Chinatown and checked into our new hotel. It's only £1 extra and we get a tv and wifi and air con, the wifi is a must!
Went to eat in a cafe nearby, the nicest one we could and find had a carbonara pasta... It tasted very odd, garlic and mushroom overload! But still nice, back to Melaka food very shortly! Posted our post cards! I want them to arrive like now!
Annie skyped her mum whilst I looked to see what there is to do here! There's a coral garden I want to go to but there's lots to see here and we don't have much time so if we have time at the end il see that!
Instead we walked to Bukit China, (right past our old hotel - awkward) the largest Chinese cemetery outside of China! It has 12,500 graves and 20 muslim tombs! You can imagine how criptic and scary looking it is! Maybe it's all these spirits that were lurking into our old room at night! We had to walk over one grave to get to the next as there's no space I between or pathway, sorry to all the skeletons I may have crushed :/
On the way back to the centre we walked next to our receptionist from the guesthouse we just checked out of, AGAIN! How awkward can my life get, she just glared, looking confused, we kept our heads down!
We tried Cendol again, i want to keep an open mind and try all the different variations! It must be popular with the locals, they've been eating it for generations! Had it with ice cream this time, instead of the coconut milk! Obviously couldn't taste as much Cendol or berrys, I can't beleive we actually really like it now and we search for more sweet corn! Im going to force my family to eat it when I'm home to prove it does taste good!
We went back to the room and wrote blogs and sorted what were doing here, we're going to stay until the weekend, as Friday and Saturday the market comes and it looks really good! Might get our future told by one of the Chinese fortune tellers there! And they'll have lots more weird, local food for me to try!
On the way back we stopped off at The Orangutan House, one of three bright orange coloured art galleries here! Chinatown is full of galleries and artists studios to walk around; Orangutan House dedicated to artist, Charles Cham is the most famous! He started drawing at the age of 5 when he watched his first ever movie! I'd never heard of him before but his work is on display in numerous countries including England so maybe some of you have! Some of his canvas work is printed on t-shirts which are for sale here, some odd ones such as 'use malaysian rubber' above a sketch of a condom! If they had one in my size id get one!
Went for tea had chefs special curry with fish paste and coriander which is how they roll here, took forever to come however, Annie had finished her fish and chips and her plate had been taken away before I got my meal! I suppose mine was extra special ;)
Then we stayed along this street for a while, after walking around the whole of Jonker Street, lit up with Chinese lanterns and temples, it's quite romantic at night! But not so much when we're both sharing a jug/pitcher of Ribena! It's cheaper to get a jug with a meal but it's either lager or soft drinks! I guess everyone usually goes with the lager :/
