Monday morning, 12:00 time to check out and go test our luck at the bus station! Went back to the hawker stall food court so that Annie could glimpse one last look at the rice boy! That was her breakfast!
Managed to get to the right street and find the shuttle bus straight away, not like us! Maybe it's our lucky day! Paid 1reem/20p for a half an hour journey through the busy city! I remember when hull buses to town cost 20p!
And the stations are set up with 30 different company kiosks to choose from, we just go for the cheapest! In this station we choose our own seats on an interactive screen, this has got to be the most civilised bus station in Asia! Only had to wait 15 minutes to get on, and it was one of the spacious coaches with only three chairs per row so plenty of room to sprawl!
Listened to Taylor swift's new song and we sang it the whole way to melaka for 2 hours! Love it!
Arrived at the bus station in Melaka and got another local bus, number 17 which seems to go everywhere! Everytime we ask how do we get here or there, it's always take the 17! Got off in the town centre and walked through China Cown, little India then the opposite direction then finally found eastern heritage after 1 hour!
The maps are all hand drawn and everyone that we asked couldn't even tell us where we were on the map, so its not just us, it's that bad!
Checked in, as it's cheap and it's where the last guesthouse recommended! it's a really old house that's very traditional Malay with Chinese features, it has a courtyard in the middle where the windows overlook and has a plunge pool! Won't be going in though!
We got the best room in the house to, the master bedroom at the back with a private terrace! As lovely as this place is it just smells like dust as I don't think it's been cleaned since 1920 so Annie wants to check into a cleaner place! Were going to spend two nights here though because I love the terrace and the gothic feel!
Walked around china town In the evening, they have a huge dragon suspended from the shop corners! We walked to it from a cute Chinese bridge over a river that looks like something from Venice with restaurants and cafes hovering over the banks!
Ate at a chinese restaurant and had Melakas famous rice balls with BBQ pork, it was the nicest food I've had in ages! Melaka is famous for its amazing local food so I will be trying lots!
Walked around for two hours to try and find the night market and it was nowhere to be seen! Our crap, handrawn map says its open every night... It's actually only a weekend market and it has moved to the other side of town anyway, four years ago! No wonder I couldnt see it!
Got back and met Our Vera, originally from Yorkshire - she's amazing! She's like a hundred and ten years old and still backpacking! She's done it her whole life and just never stopped! You'd think someone so old and brittle should be in a home but she clearly loves to travel so much and knows nothing else! She gave us lots of advice on where to go eat, what to do etc... She knows everything!
Got Showered in the freezing cold cockroach ville, the bathrooms all concrete with a rusty old rotting window! It's nice that it's original though! Just not exactly well kept!
Some form of animal was burrying it's way through our walls! Its right sbove our head, so loud! It's wings flap so it could be a bird but it doesn't chirp so maybe it's one of those big beetles! Or maybe a pack of hardcore cockroaches? I dread to think! Whatever it is I dont think it will be long until it breaks through the rotting wood window frame and eats us alive!
So I spent the night awake writing blogs, having my phone so close to my eyes for a long time really hurt so at 3:00am when I rolled over and turned out the lights, in the corner of my eye I kept seeing the light! Really freaked me out I thought it looked like some creepy little Asian ghost girl from the Grudge stood watching me in the corner of the room! Then every little noise the animals trying to break in would make just gave me the creeps even more! I don't want to spend amy longer in this poltergeist, sprit prone house!
