Our last day on Gilli Islands today before we travel back to Bali tomorrow and then then have a busy few days in Java the next, so we made the most of relaxing!
Sunbathed all day long, even though I couldn't get much more burnt!
Went to a restaurant along the strip of bars on the beachfront and got a bed on the beach! This is far better than just laying on the sand as its full of dead coral and very uncomfortable! Of course we had to keep our drinks topped up all day though and as soon as 3pm came round and staff were ready to swap shifts, they wanted our money!
I caught up on writing blogs today as they seem to accumulate so quick, in between popping in the sea every five minutes to stop me melting!
It's so relaxing here with there being no traffic/pollution, the sea is beautiful, crystal clear and full of life! All you can hear is waves crashing, and the occasional 30 minute recordings blared out by the nearby mosques over the relaxing chilled beats from the beach bars=lush!
Although, hard to fully relax when we're both having difficulty trying to arrange our flights to our next destination; Java, which we had to rely on our friend Andhika, back in Bali to book for us! Plus then getting across Java, then to Thailand and then sadly back home to England, when our cards are constantly being declined and wifi here works at a speed slower than the donkeys that pull the carriages around this island!
That night we managed to get majority sorted and booked however, Annie also managed to book our flight to Thailand for the wrong day which means we get less time in the beautiful Indonesia! But it's hard and confusing managing all our bookings just through email on iPhone! There's been many times when we've relied on having wifi or our bank cards or somebody back in England to book a flight or accommodation and we've spent the night awake and almost crying with frustration! So don't think travelling is as easy as it seems!
I also only remembered tonight, on our last night, that on this island we could've done a night-time dive along the coral reef here where you swim with the bright orange coral eggs that only spawn at certain times of the year, relating to the lunar activity! I saw it on a David Attinborough programme (I miss being a discovery channel geek!!) where the sea is loaded full of millions of floating eggs and the waters a milky white (I'm assuming full of coral sperm? LOL!) I think it would have been an amazing sight to have seen for real whilst I'm here, but yet we get preoccupied with doing other stuff and forget or don't have time!
The reason I've decided to return to the UK to earn more money and go back to travelling (we're thinking South America next year) is because of the amazing once in a lifetime opportunities such as this one that we've missed out on! They are as follows;
1) Swimming with the Phosphorescence in Koh Samui, where the plankton carried by the currents illuminates under the moonlight! - This was an epic experience i was looking forward to that was cancelled by our tour operator!
2) Walking along The Great Wall of China - another dream crushed due to problems with our visa's when we were in Laos!
3) Trekking through the forest of Penang Hill, Malaysia at night, where the flowers and leaves of the plants glow with energy - we didn't get to do it as we didn't do our research when we were there so didn't know it was possible!
4) Climbing the biggest, most active volcano in Indonesia - we never got to do it as the stupid rock rudely decided to erupt when we were there!
5) Swimming in the largest Volcanic Lake in the world, in Sumatra - there's many lakes in Indonesia including the three coloured sulphuric lake and we only got to see one! Due to not having time, again we should have researched this as it looks amazing!
...and many more things that I wish I could have had the time and money to see! This makes me really want to travel the rest of the world to see more amazing things like this, imagine visiting Mexico right now where other travellers are headed to the heart of the Mayan Prediction for the world ending in 2012! and expected 52 million tourists are spending december there, I NEED to be one of them!
Still, we've done some really amazing things since being here;
Weve visited the largest Buddhist temple in South East Asia and been blessed by a monk!
Eaten endless amounts of local foods, including frogs, locust, pigeon, snake, crocodile and more...
Dived into a shark tank with rays, eels and 20 Ft long sharks and snorkelled with turtles!
Climbed Bali's most active Volcano and trekked through rain-forests with wild monkeys and exotic birds to; ride elephants, to see the largest flower in the world, dip in natural hot springs, visit aboriginal tribes and to see the most amazing water falls, mountains and Valleys of S.E.Asia!
I've helped in an Orphanage, feeding children and teaching English and we've stayed with a Muslim family, eating and sleeping in their home!
Not to mention all of the many amazing new friends we have made along the way! It's been such an amazing journey and If I deserved a badge, then my biggest obstacle I've overcome is; I've put up with living with Annie for 5 and a half moths now!
Only joking! I love that girl! Shes my best friend! We've now been through so many things together since travelling I don't think either of us will ever know anybody as well as what we now know each other! We are like one person, with our own secret code language and we think and say exactly the same things together, at the same time like twins!
I've loved every second of travelling and couldn't think of anyone else id rather be doing it with; I can't wait to travel the rest of the world with this intelligent girl who makes me laugh every second and share more amazing experiences with her!
I love us so much!
...I do love myself more though - Il never love anybody else more than myself, Annie understands this and thinks the same! This is just one of our many inside jokes so she doesn't cry whilst reading this!
I love you baby girl!
P.S I wrote you a whole 3 paragraphs, plus one sentence extra than what you wrote about me which means you don't love me enough! Get drafting your reply love letter pronto!!
