Got back to the hotel and then started packing at 6:00am!! The bus picks us up anytime between 6:15 and 7:00am! I'm not panicking though because I've never had a bus in the last 6 months that's been on time! And surprise surprise it still wasn't there at 7:00 so i rang John and it came for us 20 minutes later!
We were supposed to be at the Jetty for 7:30 and get the boat at 8:00am so we could be sunbathing by 9:00! We arrived at the jetty at 9:30! Then had to wait half an hour stood waiting for the idiot of an organiser to work out why John had written on our tickets that we've only paid a deposit! I wasn't going to pay another £20! He finally worked it out then we had to wait at the jetty for an hour until the boat left!
Managed to squeeze in early though to get a good seat at the back where it's cooler and less rocky! Had only 70pence remaining altogether to buy a pineapple to eat! Last time I checked Morrison's sold them for 38p!! And these are grown locally!
An hour later we docked and jumped straight into the sea and then a que of hotel guides were waiting along the beach! The first guy that came up to us offered us a room for £10.50 a night, 1 minute away from the beach so we went to check it out. It has a large spotless bathroom, a TV and DVD and he has a collection of chick flicks to choose from, Annie was sold!
We checked in and then attempted to draw out some money! Still nothing! We're now both really panicking we have Annie's £7 left between us! We ate the cheapest sandwich we could find and can only drink supermarket water all day! Then we bought a packet of wafers each to try and last us all day and night! We did the best we could with the money!
We hope it will be working again at midnight tonight!! Went to the beach to try and relax but all I can think about is foooooooooood! We get free breakfast included with our room tomorrow so I may not eat again until that! Not such a glamorous life!
This island is a pretty good distraction though, the weathers boiling hot and the sea is crystal clear! There's no pollution here as there's no moped or car, the only transport is a bicycle or a Cimado which is a horse and carriage with bells on, sometimes pulled by a smelly little donkey! It's so cute! They're so rickety though, splinter central!
All the Warung restaurants are beech front and made from bamboo or wooden shacks with palm leave roofs! Combined with the fact that this 90% Muslim island has only been inhabited for the last 50 years makes it a hidden treasure and a really relaxed place!
Although there are few bars that stay open at night and some Internet cafes and restaurants offering happy shakes which I always think is a real shame! it attracts loads more tourists this way and more tourists means, higher prices, more litter, and a load of binge drinking idiots! The island next door to this larger one has a population of only 300 however and we could literally swim there! So this may be an option for us to visit after we're done here!
Fell asleep laying on my back on the beach so my face and tummy are red raw!
Our guesthouse which is 4 little family owned bungalows set around their cute garden with rabbits, doesn't have hot water! This is the first time I've been glad of it because I seriously need to cool down!
Our ceiling fan works two speeds, slow and stop! And as we're set back from the beach there's no breeze! This didn't help in the evening when I was getting more anxious and agitated about my bank card not working, sat in bed nibbling on the crumbs of my chocolate wafer!
We watched a movie to take our mind off of things and clearly 127 hours wasn't the film to watch! He goes that length of time with one bottle of water and a burrito and starts hallucinating about food! We did too and we started spacing out our time until we could allow ourselves another sip of water! It's got to last!!!
Annie fell asleep before midnight and stressed out old me stayed up until 4:30am!! Just when the mosque right outside our guesthouse started blaring out the recordings of the preyers from the Quran! Don't worry about me though, managed to get 3 hours of sleep until the villagers children went on a parade to the primary school, also outside our room! Can't complain...oh wait!
