Today we went to Lombok island! Took local fishing boat for 10,000Rabies (70p) to Pemenang dock. Super cheap considering it's 40 minutes across, however we had to wait around until the boat was full! A very bumpy ride too...vom!
Arrived and pestered by 50 million taxi drivers and bike renters!! Before we'd even set foot off of the boat! We're so used to it now though it goes in one ear and out the other!
Was told by a local to pay 40Rupei to hire a bike for the day! So we walked up and down and haggled to 50 but stuck to our guns and finally accepted 40!
Then he changed his mind when we got back from the shop and said 50! We'd already wasted an hour so I'm not gonna cry over 70p extra! plus Annie didn't feel safe driving up a mountain so we shared the cost of one bike and I had to drive! :/ never been so scared before, it doesn't matter if I crash and die but if I kill Annie I would feel forever responsible!
Plus, i didn't even know how to start the engine! He must have thought I was an idiot... And we are!
Drove straight and all easy for the first 15 minutes until spaghetti junction@traffic jam o'clock!
Annie clutched on for dear life! I had scratch marks across my waste line were she held on!
Had to overtake lorries in front of oncoming cattle trailers on a single lane road with roadworks either side, and a cow nearly flew over my head whilst cranes and diggers almost knocked us out! And with other cocky moped drivers bibbing me out of the way and overtaking me, forcing us over the edge of the cliff, I think I would rather die!
Finally after about 40 minutes we made it to Monkey forest! Saw so many monkeys on the way too, they jump out in the middle of the road and just sit there! No points for apes though! The baby's are the cutest, there always wet though, I don't know why? And how could we forget to bring Bananas!?!? I could only offer a bottle of iced tea...
They didn't look impressed and started eyeing up my iPhone instead, so we left when we realised we were alone and stranded in a forest surrounded by primates!
It started to drizzle so drove back to the pier! Didn't fill the tank once as I wanted to get my money's worth, so we used every last drop of petrol! They weren't so happy that the dial was on the other side of empty!
Got the fishing boat back to our island and went to Delita Cafe for nachos and a panini, odd concoction I know but anything goes here! Western food is sometimes so needed for a boost of energy from the not so nutrient rich rice!
Then relaxed in our guesthouse by night, did I mention its our 5th night sober?!? What the hell is wrong with us?
My cover photo today is of Lombok Island standing on Pemenang Pier! Can't believe the weather was so nice here when 20 minutes drive into the islands forest was raining at this point! Weather on these islands is crazy!
