First of all the picture. Happens to be hanging in my room here and takes me back to reading and watching the Babar stories with Marthese and Beth - when they were very little of course! The promised pic of the front of the B and B is in the album.
Another delicious breakfast , then Jerry picked me up to head to Boston College. I have to pinch myself to realise that I am getting one to one access to one of the world's foremost authorities in my area of interest. He is incredibly generous with his time and his insights. Our immediate program is to harness some of the our LTLL material to add to the last chapter of Jerry's next book. This will also form the basis of a public lecture I am giving on Wednesday. There is also an other journal article that Jerry has been critiquing for me, and discussions of how to advance my thinking on moral agency - so it promises to be a productive visit.
Weather here has been iffy since I arrived. Today was grey and wet, so the umbrella got a good workout as I moved around campus. Everyone was very helpful. It took me all of 10 minutes to get a staff ID card and my online facility will be available after 6am tomorrow. At the risk of stretching a point , that's what I call a SYSTEM!
The BC campus is a picture. Lawns and garden beds are manicured to within an inch of their lives. There isn't a poster or a chalk scrawl anywhere. The buildings are comfortable, spacious and well maintained. Staff have just returned from being largely away for the summer. Students - many wearing Boston College clothing- are buying their texts, joining clubs, replying to invitations to audition for various performances - and the year is generally gearing up in style. The massive sports stadium dominates the campus - pointing to another big difference between US universities and ours. If you want to find out more about BC - take a look here.
On matters less exalted - the ads on US TV seem to be mainly insurance and prescription drugs. Moreover, the ads for medication are about 50% promotion and 50% warnings. Seems to me they cancel each other out, so it would be better to just forget the whole thing
