MeznG. In the air, on the road, river or sea again
At the airport by 9.45am, very early for our 2.10pm flight. Just mentioned to the guy at check in that if there was an earlier flight we would be up for it so we got on the 11.40am flight to San Francisco which was a huge bonus as it gave us more time today to explore this fabulous city.
The flight with Virgin America was quick and very good. Nice aircraft. At the airport we checked out our options for travel to the hotel and decided to use a shared ride. It cost $17 each and we shared with 4 other people who were dropped off at their hotels. The drive was great as it gave us a look at parts of the city that we most probably won't go back to. There is a lot of street people here and the drive takes us past a number of missions and homeless people.
Another bonus when we arrived at the Hotel Zephyr, our booking had been cancelled for some unknown reason but we were able to rebook at $US400 cheaper! Winning big time.
It's a beautiful day, sun is shining and it's Mother's Day so there are plenty of people out and about.
Walked around the Bay Area, caught a distant foggy view of the Golden Gate Bridge, saw the cable cars and Ghiardelli Square. So many places and things to come back to in the next few days.We have Alcatraz booked for tomorrow and a day trip to Yosemite on Tuesday so we pre purchase tickets for the Hop on Hop off bus for Wednesday and Thursday. We finished up at Pier 39. Very well known Pier for shops and restaurants and all kinds of entertainment. We had the mandatory seafood as a late lunch so didn't look for dinner but enjoyed a drink watching the sunset over the marina. The famous clam chowder served in a sour dough cob will be on the menu in the coming days for sure .
