We woke up on the morning of our Contiki tour so excited! We had our first "bags to bus at 7:45am" call (the first of many) our Tour guide Tony is American and the bus driver Ricky is an Aussie. Our day song was Black Keys "Gold on the Celling" Great way to start each day :)
Off to Vegas we go and Tony was briefing us the whole freaking way! Man that guy can talk!!!
On arrival in Vegas a group of us girls set out to do some shopping as it was really hot out we decided a nice cold frozen cocktail would be a good idea to help us shop haha it made me sleepy as! First night in Vegas as a group we had a tour of the strip at night and went pst the Wedding chapels and were lucky enough to go inside of one as apparently our tour manager got married drunk on night in Vegas and there was a photo on the wall of the chapel. We all piled into this tiny chapel and Elvis came out and sang to us and married 2 of the group members in a fake wedding. It was hilarious i was seriously in stitches the whole ceremony. (I videoed it will put it up n youtube later.)
I spent the next day lazing round the pool with my room mate Kasia and also went for a bit of a walk along the strip. That night we went to a typical Vegas show it was hilarious! Mainly freakish acts and comedy but was well worth it. We went to LAX night club after which is very lardy dar and chicks drink for free till 12am whoop needless to say we all were wasted and the guys were just getting us to get extra drinks and poor them into their cups. We then got a limo ride to a strip club… why not we are in vegas right? OMG what a freaking laugh we all had. I had to go up n the stage and get danced all over by one of the strippers it was hilarious. We were all so wasted and was a great bonding sessions for us girls!
The next morning was difficult to get out of bed, and pack and get on the bus for the drive to the grand canyon. It was a LONG drive and we were all very seedy and hung over. That night in Grand Canyon we all went to bed very early! And I'm glad we did as in the morning we were up early for our helicopter ride around the canyon! WOW what an amazing site to see. It is truly breathtaking and seeing it from the air was sensational. (Tick off the bucket list there.) Then we decided to walk into the canyon as the lodge we were staying at was only 200m from the canyon. We trekked 1.5 miles down into the canyon and by god we are glad that we stopped there as it was so hard climbing back up especially in the 40 degree heat and 1:30pm…. Kasia and i spent the afternoon in bed watching movies was so nice to relax.
The next dy we sent off to Durango Colorado. What a beautiful drive this was towards the rockies. I was so excited as i was going to be going horse riding for the first time in my life and what better place then in the Rockies :) We went out for a few drinks at a local bar which was so much fun.
The horse riding was such an amazing experience it took a little to get used too but i had a beautiful horse. Was amazing riding through the rockies, i was too scared to bring my camera though as they said you can loose it. One of the other girls did and i'm still waiting for her to put up her pictures.
After Durango horse riding we made our way to Albuquerque. That night we took over the hotel's restaurant/Bar as we had a dress up party. The them was Walmart. We stopped in a Walmart every travel day just about. It was good as everyone got really creative. I personally went for comfort and went as an old lady in a daggy dressing gown and slippers. (which i wore most of the trip!) I didn't want to have too much of big night as in the morning i had to be up at 5am as i was going on a hot air balloon ride! Another tick of the bucket list there :) It was one of the most beautiful mornings and there was heavy cloud cover all around us and it was raining and stormy all around us but it was calm as where we were ballooning :) we then had a champaign breakfast and made our way back to the hotel to pack and get back on the bus cause we were off to Amarillo Texas.
Its a small area and the highlight of this was by our crazy looking hotel and the big texan steak challenge! 5 of the guys on our tour agreed to go the 2kg of steak, 1 baked potato, a side of salad and a shrimp cocktail. The challenge is if you eat it in an hour you get it for free :) They sit them up on a table and announce it to the restaurant and have a clock and you can come and take photos etc. Its also filmed and shown live online! One of the guys came really close but he had the mad meat sweats happening!!!
We then went to a truck stop (literally) of a bar for drinks after and we were taught typical Texan line dancing moves. Man their feet make it look like they are flying along the dance floor.
We were all a little seedy in the morning as the bar has extremely cheap drinks and we made our way to Dallas. I slept most of the way to sleep off my hangover! My stable hangover diet of the trip was Coke and Pringles for my hangover cure!
Dallas was a cool looking town. We had a really nice hotel there, the beds were so freaking comfortable it was such a luxury! We heading out that night for a group dinner and then to a haunted house tour. It was so much fun we got split into groups and then had to walk through this old building that was said to be one of the most haunted buildings in Dallas. There was people through the tour dressed up to scar you etc but the most scariest part was going though the room that was like a big balloon and you had to walk through the middle of it and part the balloon. It was so scary.
We then went back to the bar that we had dinner at and it turned into a karaoke bar was so much fun! We sang a few songs and even got up on the bar and danced. One of the guys thought it would be so funny to put a request in for me to sing Whitney Huston "i will always love you" i was so embraced as you can't stuff up that song its a total classic! Plus the bar was full of African Americans who would be able to do a way better job then me! Apparently i nailed it but i'm gonna go with the fact the bar was full of drunk people who just loved the song.....
Next day we got up and ventured into Downtown Dallas and we went to the JFKennedy Memorial of where he was shot dead in Dallas. The museum was really interesting we spent about 3 hours there looking around and visited the memorial for him also then made our way back to the hotel. That night we went to a rodeo in Fortworth Texas its the biggest indoor rodeo in the world (that they know of). It was so hilarious just their accents cracked me up! this town was as i had imagined Texas to be. Seriously men were riding horses into the town centre and down the main street and they had areas to tie the horses up too. At the rodeo two of the girls form our tour were selected to go into a competition and they had to dance off with other girls in the centre of the rodeo. They blind folded them and made them dance and slowly took off the blind folds of the girls leaving one thinking it was still going on. They kept saying its really close give us your best dance moves and she was the only one dancing. The whole crowd was in fits of laughter. She was ridiculously drunk too and was pulling her dance moves out of somewhere....
After that we went to a Honky Tonk. It was HUGE!! Seriously the biggest indoor line-dancing place i have ever seen. The dance floor was packed too. We stayed there for a few hours and then headed back to the hotel.
