So after another overnight bus we arrived in saigon/ho chi minh city. We managed to get ourselves a hotel which served us scrambled eggs on arrival and our room as man u tv so stu was happy!
We spent the day walking around the city - seeing notre dame, the town hall, the market, the river. Had a lovely dinner of pork in caramlised fish sauce. The food here is fab. Nothing has yet to live up to the vietnamese claypot though!
Today we visited the cu chi tunnels. We hid stu in a hole (one of the oringal tunnels which is 60cm wide and 80cm tall. We then all went around the "tourist tunnels" which are 80cm wide and 120cm tall but stu still struggled! We saw villagers making rice paper which was very cool. All around the tunnels still smell of gunpowder and sound like gun fire because they have sympathetically built a shooting range on the site!
This afternoon we went to the war remnants museum (formally the museum of american war crimes) which had lots of photos most of which largely depressing. Mel found the photo which they had used for her gcse drama play of a girl burnt by nepalm and found a photo of the same girl 20 years later as a mother. Very beautiful to see despite the scarring.
Love from the place which has 3 million motorbikes and 4 people die a day in a motorcycle accident,
Mel and stu x
