Mel and Stu missing you
Sunday was to be a lazy day, we again went up to Cavendish, but this time spent the morning on the beach. After another picnic lunch we went to the water park "shining waters." There was actually more stuuf to do dry than wet, but again was mainly aimed at younger people. And they seem to have got a mass deal of pneumatics as most of the rides relied on them! Also the random singing chickens and spaceship disco!
In all this Stu managed to burn the top of his head!
Next day and it was another 5 o'clock start to drive back down to Halifax (this time by the Confederations Bridge) for our flight across to Toronto. Suffered alot of turbulence on this short journey, but arrived safe and sound and after a ridiculously long wait at the car hire place we were on our way - to Niagara baby. The city of Niagara Falls has nice and not so nice parts, fortunately the b&b Linda had expertly selected for us was right by the gorge in an affluent area. The 'Niagara Inn' was filled by our three couples, the landlords were very accomadating and rooms decorated to a very high standard.
We purchased Adventure Passes and then walked along the gorge past the Rainbow Bridge across to the US for our first view of Niagara. Very Impressive.
We went on the famous Maid of the Mist boats, which go remarkably far into the Horseshoe Falls - and got very wet, but a never to be forgotten experience to be sure!
1 million bathtubs of water flow over the falls ever minutes, and 20% of all the world's freshwater passes through it!
Then it was an amble back to the b&B and changed for a very plush meal in the revolving Skylon tower, overlooking the Niagara. The views were spectacular, and the food very good, but this came at a price.
The next morning we used the local bus system to get back down to the falls, where were surprised to see a film set up on the gorge side. We went to the Journey behind the falls, of which the best part was the bit infront of the falls with some breathtaking views from the side! When we returned to the surface, Sienna Miller was spotted in a red wig. Quite interested we hung about hoping to see a scene, when quite unannounced, a blue horse was brought into view. Very bizarre. Anyway got some photos, the offers from the magazines will be rolling in very soon I'm sure!
Last stop was the White Water Boardwalk, down in the depths of the gorge where the rapids are said to be the most wild in the world (i.e. something ridiculous like 5 people have ever survived them, and it is now illegal - infact as an aside the last person to go over the falls in a barrel survived and was fined 250 pounds by the Canadian government!).
We drove along the rest of the gorge to Lake Ontario and the picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-lake before heading towards our next destinations - Sarnia
