So after a very long journey from the cameron highlands down a windy road which was very sick inducing - in fact a man threw up saffrom coloured sick all over the bus. Hope you apprecaite the little details i add into the journal!
The bus from cameron highlands then drops you at a station miles from the town. We eventually got to our hostel and they had lost our booking. But we eventually got a room for 3pounds per night so we cant moan.
Penang was very british. We wondered around looking at the old colnial builings, the temples and the pier. To cheer ourselves up we hab a baked potato - a real treat out here.
We also went up the cable car to the top of penang hill - on jen and alex recommendation but it was cloudy so we saw nothing. It was also filled with huge spiders acroos all the wires and trees. As if spiders werent enough we then headed across the island to the snake temple - where there were a few small snakes and lots of smoke! We had a look round the mall and Mel bought s apir of shoes for 2 quid - i was surprised she only got one pair - very restrained.
We headed to some temples to see the huge reclining and standing buddha. All the buddha statues have to be worshipped on different days! we visited fort cornwallis and stu had lots of fun dressing up and posing with guns. the penang museum was ok for 15p!
Then in the evening we finally were in aplace during new years celebrations. They were fab - dragon dances on stilts, 128 drummers, thousands of stalls, the choo kongsi clan house.
Love from the place which has no pedestrian crossings and not many traffic lkight junctions so crossing the road takes an age!
