So after another police escort we headed to dahab. This place is very tourist driven but a nicer place than sharm-al-sheik. We had a very cheap room in a nice hotel and spent a lot of time on the sofa cushions in the bar overlooking the beach.
We did 5 dives here and Mel saw her first octopus - yeah! There are so many fish around you it is like bveing in an aquarium although there are not as many big things to see as in other places. We swam through holes and canyons which were quite fun. A lot of experienced divers die here trying to break records but the majority of people are sensible and stick to the right depths and it is pefectly safe. However it was still eerie to walk past all the memorial plaques and then jump into the water which drops to 1000m! We also did a night dive and saw a spanish dancer.
We did one night on a boat in sharm and when we awaoke we were by the thistlegorm wreck. After 2 hours of our boat crew attempting to moor (which consisted of sending a diver down to tie a rope to the wreck) we were able to dive this famous wreck which sank in WWII. Its cargo of motorbikes, train carriages and trucks are still on the ship which now lies at the bottom of the ocean. We then dived at Ras Muhammed National Park - where we were able to see huge wrasse and a turtle.
In Sharm we stayed at our most expensive hotel in egypt (£12) and it was not as good as advertised - no towels shaped as swans! so Mel had a moan and got free lunch for us both!
Another long bus to Alexandria!
Love from the place where there was an explosion while we were underwater,
Mel and stu x
