Helloo from Cambodia!!
Im going to begin with the long and painful journey it took to get here from laos as continued from the last post! ...
We left don det (4000 islands) at 8am and first got on a boat to cross the river to the otherside which was fine...when we got to the other side and waited like 40mins for the minivan to arrive, when it finally did we set off for the cambodian border... At the border we got our passports stamped etc and then got onto another minivan to drive to stung treng which took about 2 hours and it was a really bumpy ride! At stung treng we stopped for lunch and then got on another minivan...but not all of us fit so some had to get into a car...and there was no room for me in the either so in the end the man suggested that i either sit in between the driver and the passenger seat or better yet i share the seat with the driver whilst he is driving!!! ...I ended up sharing a seat with the driver and he was drivin, it was soo mad, it lasted like 5 mins until he stopped for sumthing and then the nice french guy with us swapped with me and sat in the middle of the two whilst i had a nice seat in the back....so up to here the journey was fine. 2 hours later we got to kratie and had another stop and had to wait for yet another minivan which they told us would take 10min to 1hr...ended up taking 1hr and a half!!!
This is when the painful and long journey begins!!! There were 18 of us in total and only about 12 seats!! so we spent half an hour rearranging everyone around and trying to get everyone a seat whilst the danish couple were moaning the whole time. then we set off with 20 people...inc the driver and the guy on the roof!! (i think to look after our bags and he was also a mechanic...we later found out!) We drove for ages and ages, it was probably 5-6 hours. then we dropped of some people at there stop and set off again to phnom phen finally....
we stopped off for petrol on the way, which took 6 half naked men to fill one tank and one of them decided he wanted to light up his ciggerate and smoke riggggggght next to the tank, whilst we were all screaming noooo and holding on for our lives inside lol. Thennnn...the car wouldnt start so it took tghe 6 men to push and jump start it.
We set off again and passed 2 dead bodies on the road which was creepy and then our van decided to break down. it just turned out to be the engine being overheated so they just got water to cool it down. meanwhile we were trying not to get killed outside by stepping on a landmine as it was dark and some of us needed the loo!!! We finally got it working and it didnt start so it took us 6 girls to run and push the van and it started up and we got to phnom phen a while later at 1am!!!
We have been to the killing fields and the museum, it was very depressing seeing the place where millions were tortured and executed by the khmer rouge regime, it just leaves u speechless. we also went to the royal palace.
Today we went to the russian market which is huuuuuuge. because the currency here is the us dollar it feels like im spending looads!! i got loads of cheap dvds and silver jewellery, the clothes were disappointing tho!
we are going down to the coast next to sihanakville = think thats how u spell it! to soak up the suna nd the sea a final time before heading to siem reap!
