We have booked a little van incl driver, who will take us round for the next week. Its just so much easier with all the luggage and of course the 2 small kids.
Our first stop was "Kandy". A city in the mountains. The guesthouse had 4 rooms, and was a little bit outside Kandy, actually in the middle of nowhere.
Very well looked after and super pretty.
Below a few monasteries, every few hours- starting at 5am - we hear the monks sing!
We visited a temple- which turned out to be a challenge. Nat and I had to cover our shoulders, and of course we didn't think about it at first. So we had to walk back to the van.
Then they would not let us in, because the boys wore shorts. So we walked round to another entrance and Andy and Andre put down there shorts- to rapper style at its best- and we made it in:)
We also stopped at an elephant orphanage, where old working elephants get looked after! When we arrived, they all went for a bath in the river, which was a highlight for the kids.
Next day we wanted to go to a market, as Nat fell in love with a beautiful batik-wall-picture in the The Guest house.
So we drove to that store, where 4 man tried to sell us everything they had. We knew we had to barter....
They wanted 2000 rubies for a cheap piece of woven, so I said: no Sir, bad quality! He got very angry at me and wanted to proof how strong his fabric was and pulled on it....and it all ripped! Haha!
Bought all sorts of exotic fruits, as well as the famous DURIAN! Always wanted to try it as everybody in Thailand said it was the most disgusting smelling fruit in the world with a fantastic taste!
The van smelled so bad and rotten that we all nearly puked!
Back in the hotel, we opened the fruit and had a taste! Holy cow- such a disgraceful thing! Andy and I were sick for the rest of the day, especially as we had to gag every hour. Never ever will I eat that again and I have no clue what people like about it! It tasted worse than it smelled!
Animal life:
Well, I was pretty sure Thailand had to offer a lot. BUT - our garden here tips it all.
Huge monitor lizards, porcupines, 1000 geckos, fruit bats and a copra! Wonderful! Not going for a walk or run here- that's for sure!
