This weeks tour was the monkey sancutary, climbing a mountain and going to a waterfall. I was pretty excited but I was not appreciating the prospect of climbing a mountain. I did not sign up to this..
The first stop was the sanctuary which was pretty cool. The monkeys which are considered sacred eat bananas from your hands. Some of them jump on you. It was fun but i could not help resign myself to a death of rabies so i stayed back at little.
Next we went to climb a mountain. oh the joys! I am so unhealthy it is hard to watch but I decided to climb it. The temptation to sunbathe at the bottom and just send my camera up was immense however.
Thankfully, i'm not the only person who didn't appreciate climbing a mountain. Apart from Alex who can run 800 metres in a minute and so theoretically should have climbed the mountain in 90 seconds and a few others who are way healthier and enjoy this sort of thing we were all in the same boat.
To be honest, I was in absolutely no rush and quite enjoyed 'admiring every tenth tree' on the way up. It was pretty hard but the mountain is steep and straight up so only took just over an hour to climb. It was pretty fun as we messed about on the way up.
At the top we had the usual 'I just climbed a mountain photos' and then we made our way down. It may have been the funniest downwards journey I have ever had. Me, Becky and Alex were naturally at the back. But this time it was because we seemed to have lost the ability to stand on two feet, let alone walk. Maybe it was the lack of oxygen but we spent the entire time slipping and sliding and just getting nowhere in a hurry. It didn't help that when one of us fell the rest of us seemed to also collapse due to laughing so much. The amount of times we slipped down the mountain instead of walk it was impressive. We had some great advice from the guide which was 'walk down'. But what on earth did he think we were doing. Cartwheeling down? It took about 40 minutes when it probably should have taken half that time but I can say we had a more hilarious time than most on that mountain trip. I think watching Beckys moonwalk down a log in an attempt not to fall made my day.
I have enclosed a ever so flattering photo of us halfway up a mountain and yet again 'admiring a tree'.
When the evening came most people went to bed however me and Becks lovely guilt complex meant our day was far from over! We were going out in HoHo with Isaac as he wanted to show us where he lived. I honestly thought we were going to do a little sightseeing and then go home.
Naturally we dragged Alex along as he was sharing a room with his man anyway. The sightseeing consisted of driving past the junction where Isaac worked as a nurse. Such a tour of the city! We swiftly ended up in a bar. Well a nightclub bar? We got very excited over the yovus.
For a while we sat and looked civilised but eventually we were on that dancefloor. It was one of the most surreal things.
How eager Ghanaian men are to dance. It was pretty funny though and at one point me, beck and alex were all being dragged off in different directions to dance. I then looked over and saw Alex punching a speaker and wearing a red beenie hat? YOLO.
We eventually left after enough dancing and it was a really fun night even if it wasn't quite the sight seeing I was expecting. Me and Beck ended up staying awake for another few hours talking but it was nice.
The next morning we went to the waterfall. It was quite frankly amazing. We went in but you couldn't get right under the water as it felt like someone were throwing a hundred daggers at your back. It was really nice to swim in the water though and the sights were pretty immense. I also enjoyed the walk to the waterfall. Very green and just lovely really. It was also flat and not requiring any physical exertion which is up my street!
We ended up at the waterfall craft shops and naturally me and Beck brought something from pretty much every shop. All these 'oh it's only £1.50' is beginning to add up.
It was a really good weekend. It was lovely to have most people on tour with us instead of just the usual 5 of us also. I think its a nice break that everyone really needed from Ho.
