That morning, we met our tour group. The 5 of us were myself, Emma, Mark (from the taxi the previous day) and a couple: Andras (Hungarian) and Lorena (Spanish). They were tour guides in their late 20s and both spoke fluent Spanish, giving me an opportunity to practice mine for South America.
We took a taxi ride to the jungle where we got on our elephants. Mark and I sat in the chair on the back, whilst Emma perilously hung on to the neck. We fed it bananas and bamboo and drank some Chang beer whilst screaming in fear as the elephant decended almost-vertical slopes.
We grabbed lunch and went on our first trek through the beautiful Chiang Mai forests and jungles. We swam in waterfalls and finaly reached our destination: a Karen hill tribe village. This village had 250 residents and was extremely primative. There was barely any electricity and we felt completly cut off from civilisation. We sat around the fire in the evening whilst our guide, Dong, played his guitar and sang whilst we drank.
That night, we all slept well.. until the cockerall woke us up at 1am.
