I arrived in Taupo on the evening of 3rd April, taking advantage of the extra hour's sleeping the morning. In the evening I tagged along with some others and took them to the Spa Park for the Hot Water Springs. I brought some beers along and it was so worth it! Taupo seemed pretty dead that night so despite my efforts we all went to bed at a sensible hour. The only thing that really bothered me was my "magic" pumice stone which I decided was good to rub on my skin a bit too much. Red raw shoulders? In a word, yes.
I only had one goal in Taupo, which was the bungy. The weather was slowly turning to custard so I went for it on Monday morning, along with Curtis and Paige. I was remarkably cool and just went for it first up, being dunked up to my hips in the river! Completely disorientating at first and pretty awesome after, I finished up and willed the other two to complete the jump. Which they did. Go us!
The rest of the day was a bit of a write-off. I just chilled for a long while, met two new Canadian girls and played spoons and charades with a good bunch of people. Charades indeed. How very British!
On my last day I thought I'd take advantage of the free gym pass in my hostel, then we headed down to Spa Park again. It's a great place because it's beautiful, comfortable, lazy and free! Even better, we got a lift up there and back with Stray bus. Result!
The Canadian girls missed us in the hot water because they were getting ingredients to cook us poutine, which is basically chips, cheese and gravy. They came back later and cooked while I basically devoured everything that was going spare. Then it was time for a night out! We hit a pub for the end of a quiz, then danced to some old school cheese. It was amusing to come back to the hostel to see the Canadian girls making tea and toast in the corridors of the dorms. Good times!
Oh and my towel has not yet arrived in Taupo. The saga continues...
