Today was fun: our first sight of Everest, I fixed our toilet and I'm not tired. Good times.
Once we'd finished waiting for Gez to faff around (yes, there is someone in the universe who takes longer than me to get ready) we started a long climb up to the Everest View. My gamble of wearing shorts and t-shirt paid off almost instantly and we were treated to an amazing view of Everest and the surrounding mountains, including a sneak preview of the next few days of our trek.
Some of the people we'd met on the trek were already on a high point around from the Sherpa's Resort and decided to go back instead of spending the extra 30 mins going to the Everest View 100m up. We carried on to acclimatise and train and we were greeted with a beautiful sight over the Everest region and most of the peaks. We saw the two valleys we'd be trekking up and back down, but so far a glimpse of the difficult Cho La pass has eluded us.
We actually reached the same altitude as tomorrow's destination, Tengboche, at around 3800m. This put me in a very positive frame of mind for the rest of the journey ahead. So far we've managed things without a hitch, so I'm hoping that it will stay that way!
Going back down, the clouds came in and I put my fleece on, which was a horrible mistake, as the clouds cleared about 5 mins after. The descent back to Namche was linger than I thought and by the time we'd reached our teahouse I was overheating and had to rush to remove clothes!
I then embarked on a round of stealing. Well, more like "bending the rules". Gez paid 300 rupees for a hot shower which I promptly dived into the moment he was done. Lovely to be clean again. Secondly, we wandered past the Internet cafe I had used the day before. Same wireless key? Of course. Gez and I indulged in free Internet whilst looking vaguely like we were interested in some nearby wares...
I then tried and failed to get a really cheap watch and ended up pissing off the shopkeeper with my bartering. Ah well, his loss. Even though I have very little spare cash. Hmm.
Anyway, we rounded the day off with another yak steak with chips. No egg this time! I think that was a misprint in yesterday's menu.
So it's 9:45 and time for sleep. Goodnight y'all...
