So this is my first blog. And since this internet terminal charges by the minute I shall have to choose my words carefully and quickly.
It's now 9:30pm on the third day of my trip and it's going well so far. Boston is smaller than I thought it would be, which means it's easy to get around, so I've worn my shoe leather down a bit. Plus the subway is only $2 per ride, which is a fraction of the walk-up price of an equivalent journey on the London underground.
I've seen a lot of historical sights and learnt a lot about the Revolutionary period of American history. And I've done the Harvard tour and Fenway Park tour. If I didn't already support the LA Angels I'd be a Red Sox fan now.
The weather is something to write home about though, because it's bitterly cold and windy. I saw an electronic sign yesterday at 9am telling me it was 5 degrees C. My new professional windproof coat is really worth the money now. Despite the near-Arctic conditions (for me anyway, although I know it gets a lot lot worse here in the depths of winter) it's beautifully sunny. So I managed to catch the sun yesterday spending the whole day outside and I have a slightly reddened face. The peril of being fair-skinned.
I have booked up the next week of my trip - I have a hire car booked for tomorrow and I've bought a road atlas and a TomTom. I'm heading out west through Massachusetts on some scenic highway then north through Vermont to Lake Champlain (stopping at the Ben & Jerry's factory on the way) then across New Hampshire, resting at Conway, onwards to Maine and Acadia National Park where my fleece jumper will probably come in handy. Finally I'll return to Boston to drop off the car before jumping a bus to Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York City. That round-trip through New England and back to Boston will take me a week.
As I'm writing this I'm unable to access my blog site, so I'll have to post it when I get somewhere where it works. That's all for now folks!
