After Charleston, SC I was bound to be disappointed by whatever came next. Savannah, Georgia has a lot of the same charm and cute houses that Charleston had but it wasn't quite as good somehow. I saved my shoe leather by taking a hop on-hop off trolley tour around the historic district. Probably the highlight of the tour for me was seeing the church steeple where the feather floated down at the start of the movie Forrest Gump and the bench that he sat on and spouted his famous chocolate box-life metaphor (technically a simile rather than a metaphor). I now want to watch the film again because I haven't seen it in years.
In its favour Savannah had a better riverfront street with restaurants and shops than Charleston, which didn't really have anything on the waterfront except an aquarium and a park. And the weather was even sunnier.
The hotel was very expensive (for my budget) after I decided not to stay at the one budget place in town because it had mostly terrible reviews on the internet. However I finally managed to get what I booked - a king bed. The thing was massive! I could lie across it with my feet pointed with toes at one side and the top of my head wouldn't quite reach the other side.
For a change that's really all I've got to say. I also spent some time looking into my trip across the South because so far I've been concentrating on getting to Miami Beach where I shall be shortly. I've got some ideas and it looks like there's going to be one awful bus journey. At least I'll have a nice break in Miami before I set out.
