As mentioned on the last blog, we had a bus booked to Kratie for our last stop before Laos. All Cambodian roads go through Phnom Penh where the plan was to change bus and carry on to Kratie to arrive that night. Not all plans come together......
The last bus had already left to Kratie from Phnom Penh, we reckon we missed it by about 10 minutes. A tuk tuk driver took our tickets and dropped us off in the centre of Phnom Penh at a mini bus station and showed us to the minibus going to Kratie. This is completely normal in Phnom Penh and everyone uses the minibuses to transport goods as well as passengers. Our problem was that they don't leave until they are full (overflowing) and our bus only had one passenger other than us. This didn't change for over an hour and a half! Kratie is 6.5 hours from Phnom Penh so we decided it would be better to make a run for it and stay in Phnom Penh for a night as the guesthouse we stayed at last time was close. They booked us proper bus tickets for the following day to Kratie.
We had a nice meal on the riverbank watching the locals exercising (see pics) - a funny watch! After a few drinks we made it back to the guesthouse to rest up ready for departure at 6.30am.
