We arrived in Sihanoukville on Monday 4th June and quickly found our guesthouse, a nice chilled out place run by an English couple. There are a lot of westerners/white people here, it's an amazing party town with probably 100 bars and restaurants lining our street and the gorgeous sea front. There's a choice of food from all over the world at super cheap prices, we have eaten some great Indian food every day.
We were clearly warned by our hotel to leave all of our belongings there. Typically we ignored him when it came to taking our phone and camera out with us for the day which was stolen after leaving it unattended for 30 seconds on an isolated beach. At least we had put our passports and other important documents in the safe before we left! Lesson learnt the hard way!
On our second night we found a bar on the beach front called "The Dolphin". Couldn't not go in for a beer and just like home ended up staying till closing!
We plan to stay for nine days as it is such a nice place and we are enjoying just chilling out reading on the beach or walking around. We plan to go to an island called Koh Rong on Tuesday (after England's first match on Monday night!). Everyone who we have spoken to who has been there says it's amazing. There are only a couple of places to stay there and the beach is apparently beautiful. It's a 2 hour boat ride from here and we will stay 2-3 nights.
In total we spent 8 nights in Sihanoukville with 3 nights in Koh Rong inbetween. We spent a bit longer than anticipated here to work around the Euros and make sure we could watch England. Overall, it's a fab place for backpackers but we are looking forward to the next leg of our adventure.
